HPI checks etc

  BMW 120i Sport

Does an HPI check reveal if there is accident damage to a car, or an insurance claim against it - or does HPI check just check if the car has been a write off and repaired?

I suspect the last option.

Any help appreciated.

Been looking at cars today with a mate, they had an immaculate BMW M roadster in yellow (totally immaculate) with 20000 miles on the clock fro £12995.

I thought "whhhaaatt?!" so i asked about it. He said it was a category C write off and it had been repaired. Looked great on the outside, could have been something nasty underneath.

It got me thinking and I wondered if HPI could expose any other accident claims/damage that werent a write off.

My HPi check also told me that there wasnt any finance owing on the car, it hadnt be reported stolen, crashed, and there was no kind of suspect activity in the cars history. It tells you more than if it had been written off/repaired.

I used the AA btw, but I think most of the companies that use HPi use Experian as the source??

Looks like its only written off / repaired. From the RAC website:

# If an HPI check is included in your vehicle Examination, it will check on the following registers:

* Plate Transfer Register since 1990
* Outstanding Finance Register
* Vehicle Condition Alert (VCAR) (Vehicle write off ) Register
* Condition Inspected Register (vehicle previously written off and repaired to a standard considered safe by AUTOLINE)
* Date of first registration in the UK
* Stolen Vehicle Register
* Security Watch Register
* Vehicle Identity check
* Register - make, model, colour, engine size and number, where recorded (records of VIN number are not available).
