I'm amazed...

I'm a cash buyer that has only enquired - not offered - on about 5 cars in the last week.

Not one of the sellers has returned my emails! From either here or PH.

Seriously, WTF?

Lol @ cash buyer.

This is a wild guess, but have you been offering well under what people have been asking because your a 'cash buyer' ?

That would explain the lack of replies if thats the case.

In my experience a lot of people selling car parts of cars, are time-wasters... either that or they don't really want to sell up in the first place.

Revels and Tyranical - You guys really need to READ my posts!

Again: I never ONCE made an offer - it's not really clever to do that until you've SEEN the vehicle - and I only emailed when it was the only form of communication offered...

The reason stating that I'm a cash buyer is to assure potential sellers that my intentions are honourable and there is not issue with waiting for funds to clear from bankers drafts and the like. I must be mistaken in thinking this is a good thing?!?!

Did you state your a cash buyer, that probably puts people off too. Anyone who push's the cash buyer stance on sellers tends to be someone who thinks paying with cash somehow = a discount - it doesn't.

Tut tut at the lack of sensible replies:dapprove:

I was the same when i was looking mate, the only difference was i met face to face with big dealers Arnold Clark, Peter Vardy etc etc and they dont seem to want cash, im sure they have their reasons but it encourages people to get bank loans and finance deals rather than save for it.

Then hey - ho nobod can pay it back and were into a recession then the car makers have the brass neck to ask for handouts as their cars are not being sold, i mean wtf??

No idea why they wont respond to an email though, maybe it's because it's the weekend and private sellers are out and the garages are busy with test drives.

And in response to an earlier remark, if im paying cash then i would expect a discount on the windscreen price, if im paying cash and don't have a trade in i will be wanting 10% at least off the windscreen price, if not i'll walk away, plenty garages will.

If its a private seller there is nothing wrong with offering below the asking price, the vast majority of private sellers accept they will not get their asking price.

-Possibly the cars are already sold, i know i got alot of emails from people enquiring about my last car, but i sold it within a couple of days- so just ignored them

- People also may not check their emails much

- Some people are just lazy

I can assure you that's not how I operate and I don't understand how that could be read into my posts?

I can read.

Emailing just makes you look like a time waster. Call them up. Ask some questions and arrange to go and see it.

Are you scared to pick up the phone?

Thanks for the responses guys!

I'm far from scared to talk to anyone, about anything. But how would you call someone if no number has been left???? Please tell me...

I can read.

Then how did you miss these examples, above?

Surely that's not a bad thing when it's the only form or communication I'm offered? :S

I even rang a CS member that put his number in the ad!!

R I only emailed when it was the only form of communication offered...

:S

EDIT : Beat me to it 'bland'!

Come to think of it when I was selling my CRX I had about five calls from different people all of whom turned out to be time wasters! Had more emails from people and they were the one's who came through...

Really don't understand this idea that emails are a waste of time :S

Personally i belive your better off when emailing, just to explain your interested and request a phone number to contact them. Dont make offers or say about cash etc as this will put some people off.
I have sold plenty of cars by email, put i prefer to talk direct to the seller when purchasing a car.

Just how i roll :)

Modern day communication means people shouldn't discount someone who chooses to email over picking up the phone imo. It may be impersonal but it can lead to a sale just easily in my experience...

^^ agree with the 2 posts above, most car websites will have an option to make an enquiry about a car via email as well as phone, it shouldn't be a signal that someone isnt serious just because they didnt phone. They were either pretty rude not to call back, or just busy but its their loss if you buy elsewhere.

I went to a dealer recently, and the bloke didnt even bother to take my name or contact details dispite my interest, i bought elsewhere where they were intereted in me as a customer.

LOL at this thread, amusing is the fact that many think there is a specific reason or answer as to why the sellers aren't replying ... it could be one of a hundred reasons that no one but the seller himself knows. Its like asking the question, what was John thinking when he bought that part? who the f**k knows lol. Mate i just say keep trying with the emails and if you want to know the real reason then just ask the seller himself, otherwise its like shooting in the dark, ie: pointless ;)

Scouring Exchange and Mart (not used them before) and found an "immaculate" 2003 (53) 172 Cup with FRSH, 12m T&T, 62k, 4x new Tyres, Stealth SS Exhaust, 1 owner going for sensible money. And a seller willing to speak to a potential buyer.

Going to view it tomorrow.

Fingers crossed it turns out to be as expected! :D

Good luck with it Nero. And even bigger luck that you get better responses from threads in future. Some of the responses here have really disappointed me.

It appears the quality of the car does not necessarily mean that the quality of thought by the owner will be equally as good.

ETA - I bought 4 VX220's and sold 2 all by email so don't see why anyone would be so hung up about it. I didnt supply a telephone number as I work shifts and didn't want anyone ringing me whilst I was at work. PH works, CS doesn't IMO.

I also dont have an issue with e-mail. However there are still lots of people out there who prefer to talk to someone as its a more personal touch.
If i am selling a car i include a phone number, as i know some people still prefer to talk. And if when buying a car there is an e-mail address and a phone number. The phone number will take preference for me.

And if your serious about selling a car, you will make yourself as contactable as is physically possible.

Thats just my 2p :)
