Head bolts almost always come as a pack so you need to order x1... if ECP are charging £19 each then i'm gonna be quids in under cutting them!

Don't buy those gaskets - if you buy a decent quality "head set" for the vehicle it will come with them along with cylinder head gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, camshaft oil seals, valve stem seals, etc.

no real need to skim the head if there's nothing wrong with it, just clean it up, check its flat and whack it on

ok nice one.

Do i clean the pistons while i see them? ive given them a quick squirt with wd and attacked them with blueroll but theyre still caked in carbon.
and what do you recomend cleaning the head faces with?

no comment as someone who's read a book on being a mechanic will no doubt throw in some form of critism to my method LOL!

several ways you can clean the face of a head, i've seen people use air powered orbital da's with fine paper before!

Re: I'm confused!!!! Part buying woes

what would you do lol

Check the mating surfaces are clean and true as Fred said above then whack on the new gasket with new bolts and be done.

Cleaning mating surfaces is contentious as hell - just DON'T use a wire brush, grinder, etc or anything too abrasive as it'll mark the face and reduce its ability to seal correctly. Similarly *some* people use a fine grit paper such as 1200-2000 grit but you can go too much in one area if you're not carefull which causes other issues. Personally, I use an acetone solution to dissolve carbon and gasket deposits... I think Fred does to.

West Midlands "precision" engineering for THE mutha-funking win mate... you can use a 5lb lump hammer to smooth out the low points to I hear
