hello all, im new to this forum so HI

I have a problem with my Clio can anyone plz advise on what i should do..

I was coming off the motor way this evening when the steering felt quite heavy... when into town it got really bad, pulled over, checked tyres and everything, all fine... getting home and it was a real struggle to change direction!! roundabouts were a chore!!! When i got home i let it stand then reversed it slightly and noticed a big puddle under the engine. Checked the POwer steering resovoir thingie and all empty and bubbling at me .. So this obviously is the problem.. Can anyone advise WHAT exactly could be the problem(broken pipe etc) and what i should do to get it repaired?.. can i drive the car?? will it seize drive shaft thingies and stuff??? help!! plz....

oh, its a 1 year old cup too...

i wouldnt drive it, get it recovered to a dealer to be fixed, wont damage the drivesafts but might shag the pas rack (if it isnt already that is) should be covered under warranty so i wouldnt worry too much

hi everyone... thanks for that... damn im needing it for thursday!!.. what if i filled it and quickly drove it to my good ol garage 2 mile away? - will my warranty still cover me if ive lowered it and got IK on it or do these need to be removed first?? AND will reno do it there and then or book me in???? thanks everyone.. oh and HI too, nice to be a part of it all

urm, possibly remove the IK if they are poking around in the engine bay, but they *may* not notice that its lowered...

as for mods affecting warranty it depends on the dealer in question tbh some have an issue with mods and others dont. they may argue that as the suspension has been modified that this has caused undue strain on the steering components and caused this to happen and therefore voiding your warranty others may not be bothered and fix it FOC. without seeing the fault or the car in the flesh its hard to say if its safe to drive to the garage but as you may have to pick up the bill for any damage done as a result i would be inclined to get the car recovered to the dealer to be looked at and worked on. as for refilling it PAS works at very high pressures and if there is a leak it will blow more fluid out pretty quicky so refilling it may not help at all

Hi mate I got your PM.

The problem is a split joint (Im unsure which or where as Renault never actually sent me the paperwork). The power steering reservoir will be completely empty, and make bubbling sounds when the engine is running.

The steering also makes a grinding sound when you try to turn it. The longer you leave the engine running the more likely the power steering pump is to fry.

Get the car recovered to Renault, your modifications should NOT affect your warrenty for the power steering. Do not switch on the engine unless its necessary e.g. driving onto a low-loader.

morning all.. thx for the replies...right, judgement day! - hope fully i can get this sorted as i really need it for tomorrow..

Cheers frosty for your help there too.. did it take them long to fix it? or was it simply a case of re-plumbing in a single pipe?... basically do you think it was considered as a simple job for them?

Oh sh*t, one other thing.. If they decide that they wont do my car coz the IK and/or lowering has voided the warrenty - will my car be electronically VOIDED throughout the reno-net and i wont be able to goto any other renault OR will it just be for that renault dealer?

I dont see how they can void your warranty mate. I have fitted a new sound system throughout, but that does not affect any mechanical workings. Naturally, none of the sound system is covered by warranty anymore though.

The time it takes to fix depends on exactly whats gone wrong. Mine was away for 2 days from memory because something needed ordering, but I never actually received the paper work, so Im afraid I cannot elucidate any further.
