iMac crashing

My iMac keeps crashing and restarting in the night - normally when in sleep mode .. it's not the end of the world as it's always over night, but it's just annoying. I keep sending the fault reports to Apple but it doesn't tell me anything useful.

Can anyone with an ounce of computer knowledge tell me what on earth is wrong with it !? :dapprove:

I have Applecare so if it needs new parts I'm not concerned .. I just can't be bothered to take it to Apple as I can't replicate the issue !

Sometimes it won't do it for weeks, sometimes it'll be a few times a week. I'm unsure if it's HW or SW related...

Mine was doing this and doing my f**king nut in. I reset SMC and PRAM and it stopped f**king about.

Reset PRAM
Apple said:
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  5. Release the keys.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

SMC = System Management Controller (I'd guess it was resetting this that did the trick but I did PRAM too for good measure)

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 (basically turn it off and pull the power cable for 15 seconds)

PRAM = Parameter Random Access Memory.

Instructions above.

Doing both shouldn't cause you any problems.

Honestly mate, if its not an easy fix, take it to apple. I don't think you need to replicate it? I haven't when iv had intermittent fault with my iPad and phone
