Input required from the usual suspects.

Hi.

Since the thread in questions was locked by the ever helpful Tom, I'll start one in here.

A very helpful (read thexy) Mod has agreed that he will sticky a thread, that outlines all the info we need, much like the current one by Rich.

There are 100's of threads a week on which wax, how to clean my wheels etc etc and as someone who uses this particular part of the forum more than other parts, it would be nice to help newbies and regulars, but not repeat ourselves constantly.

There will also be a little bit of repetition, but that is unavoidable. There will also be the need for updates as well as opinions in the thread.

As much as I would love to, I don't have quite as much time as I use to, however, I do have train journies most Fridays and Sundays down to London, i.e. 2hrs. So can get started on this. It would be great to have input from members on here, new and old, experienced and not etc.

Could you please let me know whether you are able to help and if there are any specific areas that you would like to cover. My aim is to have this in place as quickly as possible and to cover all the areas of Rich's thread, with updates and additions.

Thanks,

Jamie

I'm no expert, but I'd be happy to try and help, in exchange for p**n links as payment. Wot think?

Seriously though, happy to help. I've tried pretty much everything available in the UK, so I have a fair old idea of what's hot and what's not! People will always be lazy and/or prefer a personalised answer, but it's a great idea. If we can all agree... ie. Onyx isn't the only wax in the world and SOME Dodo stuff is 'okay'

Loving the use of Wot Think?© and generally having the lad back!

Good to have the input, I'll be in touch as usual.

I do like the stickies but I also like the threads where we have a natter about the different stuff we've used so hopefully that doesn't go away.

Maybe we could even agree on a definitive list of go to products, and be unlike the PB ones, not be biased towards what we sell! (Great idea/business model they have there though! Clark is the master, look at what he uses... buy, buy, buy!)

The issue is with detailing, everyone is an expert and nobody ever agrees!! Somebody uses SRP and EGP a few times and it's the best! Despite the fact that there are hundreds of products out there!!

I do like CS for Detailing though. Most forums are DEAD, often with a resident 'expert' who hasn't a clue. At least there's a wealth of knowledge on here :)

That's what I'm aiming to achieve Kev. I know there will still be threads and I don't want to loose the banter/info etc. But I would rather point the general questions in the direction of an all in one thread, rather than type, link, essay etc.

Ha, ORLY.

It would be great to have input from the likes of Luke (boosh), AR, Alan, Paul, Jim (Jimmeh) etc

Yeah it was very very stale at one point on here guys especially when JD was off. Me and Markie had a bit of banter.

There has just been an influx of new threads really. It's refreshing, I enjoy talking about detaling especially with passionate people who know what they are talking about.

There's a wealth of deataling knowledge on here, carry on Rich's mantle.

Thread will just consolodate the usual questions asked and will act as a quick reference point. Nothing more than that really, won't hinder discussions at all.

Thing is though, everyone has different opinions as to what is best etc. There seems to be plenty Dodo haters out there, but I don't mind it.

There is also SO many products to try, chances are there will be people on here recommending them all individually, and being honest, the difference between most waxes etc these days is almost unnoticeable

I just like chatting about it. Like Justin said everybody's opinion is different and it's great bouncing ideas off each other ect... I know this isn't detailing world though!

A simple sticky or 2 will cover most things easily though.

Agree on the above and I do want that chatter to remain. However, the "how to wash TBM" etc sort of threads need to be addressed as I find myself repeating over and over. It was the same before my "holiday", with Paul and I almost giving up coming in here or answering the 100s of threads!

Just link people to the Polished Bliss guide. It explains everything.

This is what I was about to say. Found this very helpful as I was/am effectively a complete novice when it comes to this sort of stuff. I've found explaining what the process is actually doing very useful and has given me a much greater understanding.

Also having a potential list of recommended products for newbs like myself could be quite useful. A sort of CS recommended starter kit with everything from shampoo to wheel sealant could be quite handy and reduce the amount of 'spec me' threads. E.G:

AG Shampoo
AG SRP
AG EGP
AG HD Wax
Megs Claying Kit
AG Intensive Tar Remover
AG E& MC Cleaner
AG Interior Shampoo
AG V&R Care
AG Glass Polish
Wire wool & Autosol
Megs Tyre Gel
Poorboys wheel sealant.
MC cloths, wash mits, polishing pads, wheel brushes etc

This is pritty much what I have accumilated in the 2 weeks I've owned the car. Quite a heafty amount but as a novice this should easily be plenty for me to give the car a thorough clean and get it looking good. Then when I'm after a more specifically deep shine, or wet look or warmth etc I can start looking into different waxes, polishes, shampoo's, sealants etc.

Being recommended several different products all effectively doing the same job when, from a novices point of view, all that's required is a good clean & shine, can be quite confusing! I do, as do others I'm sure, appreciate the mountains of advice but it can be a bit overwhelming :)

  Not a 320d
Detailing World is even worse!

Dave KG is god iirc. And Fk and Collinite are the best wax/sealants available.

So what are we doing then. Write a post in this thread, with a spesific tag perhaps, explaining about something.

Like, dont use Dodo waxes or Bilberry because they are both shite ?

Id be happy to do a write up on Wheel products. I have/used bilberry, espuma, wonder wheels, diablo gel and others.

Yes and how wheel sealents at £xx are better than a durable wax.

Poorboys Wheel Sealant and the CG sloppy orange crap are some of the worst products I've used!!

1000P, 476S, EGP etc are all better, easier to use and cheaper!
