Is the Ktec Sports cat really a Janspeed

  172 Cup

Looking at K-tecs website for more info on the Sports Cat for the mk2 172 and Cup the text below mentions it was tested on Janspeeds rolling road. After thinking this was kind of Janspeed I have found out that they also produce a Sports Cat for the Cup albeit slightly cheaper.

So if Janspeed produce this why would they allow K-tec to use their RR? Or is it the same product?

Thats what I considered Tom but the price difference is close to £90. Hope K-tec arent trying tot take advantage of people for that much money?!?

in the product info on there website it says gains of 7bhp have been seen on janspeeds rolling road so probably is the janspeed sold by k-tec

i wouldnt pay 300 quid for it anyway not when a normal de-cat wud give u even more power and is lots lots cheaper

Tree hugger. Small animals collapse and die as I drive past with my dirty great decat pipe :D

its hardly likely that Ktec make these in the back of the workshop is it - same as they dont make HT leads, spoilers, brakes... but its all branded KTec.

there not that far from janspeed so it wouldnt surprises me if they were made by janspeed but if it was exactly the same product then surely it would be marketed as janspeed, or as a janspeed/KTR part like they do with the IKs etc.

if this IS a Janspeed, which from lookin at posts on here it more than likely is, your local Motor World can supply you with these, probably cheaper than K-Tec

It may well be made by Janspeed but it will not nessessarily be made to the same spec as Janspeeds own ones. There could be design differences. Janspeed, Hayward & Scott etc make exhausts for lots of specialist suppliers.

Just found out theyre the wrong parts!

Just been down to motorworld and theyve ordered the right ones. They matched up the dizzy cap and rotor arm Ive just taken off mine to the picture in the catalogue. Should be there in about an hour or so.....

Cheaper as well.....£20!

Hello guys, I see we have a few detectives among you.

It is no big secret that our sports cat is made for us by Janspeed as they make many parts exclusively for many companies. Our cat is our own design, we have paid the development/testing costs and you will not be able to buy it anywhere else. The price you have been given for a sports cat through a Janspeed dealer is actually for a decat pipe and not a sports cat. Janspeed actaully called us yesterday to see if it would fit a Cup. Until we approached Janspeed they had never made a sports cat for the 172 even though they have it listed in their catalogue. This entry is being withdrawn from next years catalogue. They have only made one decat for a customer and that was soon taken off the car as the customer found it too loud.

We actually sell our decat below Janspeeds RRP which is well over £300+vat. If you would like to check on any of these details please call Tom Ross at Janspeed, he is the technical director, and he will confirm what I have said. It is not our policy to take other companies parts and add a huge mark up and sell them as our own. Any part that has KTR in front of it means it is either solely developed by us, exclusively made for us or we have helped with the development. It would be very easy for us to just sit back and wait for other companies to bring out new parts so we can sell them, but we do feel there are always areas where parts can be improved or introduced to make the cars better (I realise our definition of better may be different to yours in some cases!!). We believe in being an innovator and not an imitator.

After to speaking to people at K-tec, they are alwasy honest and open about their products. A top notch genuine company who I would recommend to anyone. Not the cheapest, still competitive, but definitley the best quality, and thats worth every extra penny.

Need to mount the 2nd lambda in it though, so would need modding...

  Lionel Richie

na you dont, the second lambda doesnt need to be fitted, it doesnt seem to do anything!!! Typical Renault LOL!!!! (it is obviously there for a reason) but it works fine without the 2nd one
