I speced one up the other day with similar spec only it's got 6 x 300gb 10krpm disks. I just hope that's enough space, it's an art repository server.

McBunny - we've got a dual Xeon Proliant server here (including 8GB mirrored memory) - purely for SQL2000. It doesn't get that stressed out, even though with 15k SCSI disks, it sometimes gets a little bogged down. That's purely for our financial package too. God knows how it would cope with AutoDesk stuff on it too. Would it not have been better to get two decent servers than one mammoth one?

darren yes it would but my manager wants to keep down the ammount of servers we have (he knows nothing about anything really) also at only about 5.5k its not too much considering we just made 40 people redundant

shame you cant spec the dell ones from what i can see :(

You can, they will build it to the exact spec you want. I've had 3 servers from there now, and the support is spot on too. Give them a call and they'll have a quote with you in 10 minutes.
