Nah, all it is is an imobiliser. Should have a small golden key to switch it on and off

mine has got this also, but havent got the key for it.

If i got a new key/switch, would it work, i dont know how it functions, does it require the remote central locking to work?

mines sorta next to the glovebox light, at the moment theres just a hole there, because i poked the key switch thru lol

I had this imboliser on my old 1993 clio RSi. Its situated on the top of the glove box and requires a key to activate. It has nothing to do with central locking or alarm, its just an imboliser. There should be two LEDs on the steering column. One of these is the alarm and the other is the imboliser. Its all factory fitted. I believe it was one of the first imbolisers to be factory fitted in a car. Its an old system and mine used to work well, with the key obviously, but then it started imbolising itself without me doing anything (a loose connection) so I disconnected it.

I wouldnt worry too much about it. And my key wasnt gold but a silver key. Hope this helps.

They are a bugger when you forget to turn it off and the car wont start, done that a couple of times in my mums old car. You never know, it might drop your insurance premium having a factory fitted imobiliser

mines only got 1 LED on the steering column, so i guess its just got an immobilser.

Is the key just a simple on off type key switch, or is there more than 1 state, like the iginition key?

Only asking so i can go buy a new key switch 2moro from maplins

Thanks

now my mums 93 rt used to have one of these but I cant find a single key whole/slot anywhere on the valver - no leds either.. BUT! I have a flashing light next to the central locking sensor on the roof?

share with me!

nah, mine LED is just behind the steering wheel. the keyswitch doesnt seem to click, when turning it round, it just seems to be a 360 degrees smooth action??

it should be a solid 1 step, either on or off. Its not the most advanced system, but if it just goes round and round id say it was buggered. It might be worth a trip to renault to see about a replacement.
