Laptop question

Is there any way i can setup my laptop so i can close the screen down and the laptop will still keep working. I want to be able to close the screen down and connect it to my tv, using wireless keyboard and mouse

i have a dell and i can do that. click on the battery symbol in the system tray (bottom right), and see if there is a 'power options' option. click that.
