Leather smart repair

  182 cup
Iam looking at an approved used bmw. Love the car but this damage to the drivers seat is spoiling the fun. The bmw dealer say they can smart repair it. Any detailers in here know if this is worth a toss or not

Its a used car and the dealer is prepared to fix it for you, what’s the problem?

The leather looks shiny in that one pic you posted too, has it done a lot of miles?

It’s done 45 k

great they will repair it. Hoping that someone might have some experience and be able to advise if leather repairs are lasting or likely to fail again quickly.

I'd guess he's asking whether a leather smart repair is a long or short term solution, i.e. is he going to have to recover the seats in a few miles meaning he should look at another car...?

It's the usual old adage of who repairs it. I had a smart repair on a daily which looked immaculate for four years until I sold the car. When I did the same on a new to me vehicle, it lasted 12 months before looking shabby.

Talk to them about guarantees, former work, expectations or even back away unless it's done "properly". 45k is low mileage for a failure like this in my view.

Fair comment. I’d expect it to last. But the end of the day it’s leather so may need treatment again.

How much is a used seat? Or if the car is newish, a new bolster cover? I'd be looking to get the money from the dealer and pay a trimmer to replace the panel, or bolt in a replacement seat
