  PH2 172
I'm fancing upgrading to a 172 from my 1.2 i have now, but it puts me off slightly that i feel that id be sat in my old car with slightly different seats and a bigger engine! anyone else upgraded in this way? is it worth it?

I can imagine you wouldnt have the same feeling of excitment and novelty that you would get if you bought a completly different car!

  172 Cup
You're blatantly bored with your 1.2

A 2 litre would sort that out. Start to feel bored again... hit the loud pedal.

Its a completely different Car and animal all together,it doesn't get the Renault Sport name for nothing!.....Test drive one and your questions will be swiftly answered.

End of the day it IS still a Clio, albeit a faster one.

The RS's do feel completely different on the road and to drive, but if you're just bored of Clios and have driven a 182 and still don't feel any real desire to get one, then don't.

There are plenty of other cars around worth testing...

I know what you mean with the 'like for like' scenario. I'm not sure I would ever stick with the same model of car as there are so many other cars to be had.

You would enjoy the 172 though!

i went from a vtr to a vts and i loved the difference

1.2 to a 1*2 will be a massive step in the right direction

totally agree with this man, i went from a 1.2 to a 182, mainly due to needing the bigger engine, but i still loved my first clio when i had it, but go and drive a 172 and see what you think mate, if you feel that you have moved from a clio look at others, plenty about

  Monaco 172

I just went from a ph1 1.2 to a ph2 172 today. I can't stop smiling hehe :approve:

That example's way too expensive... probably £4k tops.

Plus, they have advertised it as a 182 when it's a 172...

Have a look in the for sale section here mate, probably much better value for money than anywhere else, as Cliosport prices tend to be driven down...

  M3 CSL, GT4 & SL
Im sure its not just the engine, it will be lower, better suspension, handling. Will feel like a completely different car. Like a 320 to a M3 and a M3 to a CSL. All similar but worlds apart.

If you think thats what you want go for it you won't look back except at people you're passing :)

I had both recently, after driving the 182 then getting back in my 1.2 was mental, the car didn't move lol

Completely different car that you wont get as bored with.

I did the 1.2 > 2.0 jump, it's a huuuuuuuuuge difference, and not just in speed.

First thing I noticed was just how f**king heavy the steering was at low speeds :p

Heavy steering, different plastics, alacantra interior, climate, 'softer' clutch and POWERRR

Softer clutch? It's heavier than my 1.2's one, and that needed a sumo wrestler left foot to engage.

The other thing I noticed straight off was a 1*2 will pull away with practically f**k all revs... I still drive my old 1.2 (it's my little brothers now) every now and then and I have to give it death just to get it rolling :p

  M2 Competition
Will pull away with no revs at all cookie, you can drive in traffic without the gas pedal.

(You can do this in most cars though :S )

It won't reverse with no revs like a diesel though.. I stalled testing that one :p

Nearly killed my front garden

Same here... Started off with a 1.2 Billabong (FTW lol !) then upgraded to my 182, Totally different car to drive, Couldnt wait to ditch the 1.2 after a year but after 3 yrs of owning my 182 i still love the car, My RS 182 still puts a smile on my face every time i drive it and im sure others will agree, They can be tempermental but that aside they are cracking little cars that can give you many hours of fun behind the wheel

Good luck with whatever you choose !

That was the first thing I noticed too. There's definitely more feel to it.

I couldn't really notice a difference in the clutch.

Knowsit big man.

Not to mention the sound. First couple of times you get it upto 4k revs in 4th you'll cream yourself. Still makes me smile now.

Other things you'll like is the climate control (bar the stupid fan buzzing) and the xenons. I wouldnt buy a car without them now. Xennons are the dogs danglies.

  330Ci (Fail)Sport
The difference will be big mate, but I understand where you're coming from.

I had a ph1 1.4 and part of the reason I got a ph2 172 was for a change of interior. But tbh, even a ph1 would bring just as big a smile to my face, due to the fun 172s are to drive.

I did fancy a change from having a clio, but no other car seemed to do what the 172 does for the price.

  PH2 172
Yea the heavy steering was the first thing i noticed in my mates 182, took me a while to get used to the closer gearbox too, mines like a spoon in porridge, cant fault the billabong like lol!

cheers for the advice guys, now will someone sell me theirs!

  clio 16v
ive just got my first car.. 1.2 extreme..

if i was you id test drive a few cars tbh.. might find a saxo you like lmfao

  200 Gordini
tbh i didnt notice the heavy steering, i just saw it as handling alot better. Only when i got back in my 1.2 i noticed it was soooo light.

4k > WAAAAAAAAAAAA lol love the sound.
