  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

yeah seen it looks mailto:w@nk">w@nk. That french 120mph street race looked interesting. bit like getaway in stockholm

  Nippy white cup

Dont mean to sound like a knob but I think that it was fake, just doesnt look fast, at one point he is at v high revs in something like 4-5 gear but seems to slow and also seems to be accelerating hard listening to engine but is still seems slow:confused:

  S2000

Thought the same thing Chris. At one point he was in top gear for a long time revving the nuts off it, it didnt look like he was going over 30mph!

i agree, the shot looked fast cos of the low angle, but if you take a closer look at how fast the parked cars are going past, it looks like normal driving speed.

That was a very poor print m8 - Spirit Level Film have cleaned up the print quite a bit and believe me its fast. Were talking 1976 so no camera tricks, no cgi, no speeded up film - just a camera bolted to the front of a car (still arguments as to what car) and early morning Paris.

The whole thing is only 9 minutes long (thats how much film went in the camera that was used - no editing or re-takes here) so Top Gear couldve found a couple of minutes more to show the whole thing.

Buy the DVD - its fantastic, honestly:D

Lol Ive sent an e-mail to the web site. Want to see what they say about it. It was daft how they were cheering after the clip, obviously never driven a Clio b4:devilish:

  Nippy white cup

I just think they have put a different engine sound over it m8. Even the skidding tires sound pretty much identical the whole way though

  Clio 1.6 16V

That new DB7 looked the biz though 0 to 130 in 4th gear!!.... if only I could win the lottery! Would still keep my 172 though as a 5th car!;)

  172 Cup, V6 255, Williams

I was particularly interested in the 0-130mph in 4th for the DB7.

The Lotus will pull from 15 all the way to top speed of approx 180mph in 5th.

Impressive figures all round.

Paul

teh film is fake...........

its sh*t too........

when they were driving round, they passed 2 old people with children, they didnt even look round.......cause it was filmed in a panda.

Yeah, didnt look at all right to me. At one point the car appeared to be at the top of 4th gear, making a hell of a racket, but barely moving!

I agree it didnt look right, I shall have to watch the whole thing then decide. The Volvo looked absolutely sh*te tho! It really did look like a wheely bin had been moulded into the bonnet!!!

  Clio 197

The film is real, and you can read about how it was made. They were really being a bit crazy as the roads were not closed down and they ran quite a few reds if I remember correctly. The pigeons certainly were not expecting a car to be approaching so fast and I am sure the garbage men were a bit surprised. At one point there is a bus crossing the road which made it a bit interesting.

The car was a Ferrari as far as I know. I saw the crappy VHS version of the film a few times about 20 years ago and it was pretty impressive. Ill buy the CD for sure. No special effects, and probably not the best driving, but it is a classic.

No speeded up film in 1976. Might I bring your attention to Knight Rider and Airwolf to name just two. Ok a few years later but the technology for doing it is hardly rocket science...oh and they already had had rocket science for a few decades by then.

But I must say it looked slow, low camera angles make things looks quicker.

BUT

When you film something like that it always looks slower, check out some of the vids that have been videod by some of the people on here.

BUT (again)

It didnt look 120+mph

Paul

screw that.......

get getaway in stockholm, the first one.....thats better, real and you can see they are driving fast.....not 2mph.

not seen 3, what car is used?

didnt really like the cossie on...pap slow and understeered like nothing else.

at least the porsche sounded nice.

  CTR EK9 turbo

my fave was the black supra on getaway in stockholm 2 i think? Ive seen that french racing vid and it looked way too slow to be doing 120. The white lines werent approaching anywhere near fast enough. At one point he does a chicane through some streets, maybe at like 50 max. I heard it was a ferrari? non-turbo charged whatever it was..

yup, ferrari, but tis just so fake its silly how people cna believe it.....if it aint, its poorly dubbed,......dunno how to explain the boring ness of it

the film was fake. Do you really think any pigeon, I dont care even it has a rocket strapped to it could fly out of the way of a 120mph car? No it cant trust me I have hit a few fluffy and feathered creatures in my time.

The jag xjs would pull from idle to 140mph. Thats a 26 year old car.

  Clio 197

There was no way that the car would be doing 120 at that point. It was on a roundabout or whatever they call those things in Paris.

Id would love to see it again. Especially the remastered version.

27 years, aurgument and analysis by many many racing and automotive bods (including a rather impressed Enzo Ferrari), a director who was arrested when it was first shown and people decide its fake after watching 2 25 second clips on a motoring show ;)

a guy with a willy interiored 1.4 clio is trying to tell drivers of motorsport calibre who have also seen the whole vid and fallen asleep.

Far too may easily impressed peeps out there.

Fair dues BenR if he has a 1.4 he must know nothing just like if you talk to someone with a Ferrari you must know nothing with your couple of tarted up shopping trolleys...

Mine was meant to be tongue in cheek but there you go (Ive got a nice tarted up shopping trolley myself). Still rate the film all my japanese rubbish loving housemates thought it was rubbish. But they have no soul and think racing in straight lines is fun. That was meant to be tongue in cheek as well...
