Lowering 60mm?

My mark two phase one is currently lowered 40mm on the original shockers, does anyone know if I could lower them 60mm with the original shockers or would they bottom out?

I know someone who lowered 60mm with original shocks and it seemed fine, not sure whether he just got lucky?

  Ph1.2 / VW Polo
mixed opinions about this from what ive read.
alot of people have gone 60mm with standard shocks and been fine. mainly ph2's though.
it would be ok for a while but they'll need replacing eventully (year or so), then uprate them.
im droppin mine 60mm soon and unless i can find a cheap 2nd hand full kit then im stayin on standard shocks.

I would look into a cheap set of coilovers if you were going down the route of upgrading shocks & new springs

yeah mate, personally i wouldnt do it, that constant compression of your shock's is gonna kill the seals in no time, and then youll end up having to buy new shocks anyway. Problem with the feed back from people that have lowered by 60mm on this forum is that, most of them, buy the springs (60mm) ride them for a week or so and then start posting saying "yeah im on 60mm with standard shocks and they fine, no probs" yeah!!! maybe for a few weeks, give it like half a year to 3/4 and i can bet majority will start having problems with their shocks.

Thats just my point of view though - not worth it.

Well I suppose I will get the correct shocks eventually, if I'm replacing the shocks might aswell get the most out of them, saves me paying for everything in one chunk!

Problem is I've got 17"s on it at the moment and can barely get your finger between the tyre and wheel arch, so will have to invest in some smaller wheels!

Cheers for the help!

I've got mine (ph2 though) on 60mm springs with standard shocks. Been on them for about 3 months, had 40mm springs on before for around 4 months and it's still on the shocks that's been on the car since i bought it year and a half ago with no problems.

Why do you want to make it much lower then? Usually people lowering on the cheap (lowering on standard shocks) just want to fill the 4x4 gap?
