Lowering Headache....

  Clio 172 2.0 16V RSport
Hi All,

right i have a 172 with 17's on. i want to lower it but after reading a few threads on here im confused.

If i do it with springs only am i going to need to drop it upto 60mm to notice the difference because apparantly the sports lower 15mm less than any other model when you fits springs because they are light etc.

is this correct?
has anyone got pics of 172 lowered with 17's?
any other options....not much cash available... yet!!
can the springs be fitted by somebody competant with the correct tools clamps etc??

please help
cheers guys

Daz

I have a 172 ph2 and also have 17 inch rims

Yesterday morning i replaced the rear springs with -30mm springs and i have -35mm for the front (which i am going to let the local garage deal with)

If you look at clios for sale on pistonheads there is loads on there with 17inch rims and been lowered betweeen 30-40mm on springs so its definitley possible and a set of springs will only set you back about £120 for a decent set - i.e Eibach sportlines

Not sure where that 15mm lower than other models came from i have never heard of that before

  1.6 focus zetec....
Think the 15mm commment would be for a 182 as its not got spare wheel?? Not 100% but the only thing i can think of...

If you want a good set up i'd get coilovers.... yes they can be a tad expensive (around £500 mark) but they're adjustable (so if your not happy it can be changed) and the ride will imo be better than just springs.

Easy to change once you've got the tools but im sure a few garages around you wouldn't mind doing them for a small fee.
