m2 Phone Memory Card

Received my memory card today (ordered from Ebay)
Its an 8gb m2 one for my Sony Ericson. I put it in my phone and it said I had 7862mb (something like that anyway) free so I then put it into the computer and nothing happened, so I found it and it said I had to format it, so I did and now its only got 3.45gb?!?

Can anyone explain where the other 4gb is and how do I get it back?
