Machine Polishing

After reading the thread by jackbaps Ive decided that I want a PC. Would the Ultimate Detailing Machine be a good place to start?

Well the UDM isn't the PC (Porter Cable)... so if you want a PC specifically then no!

It is pretty much the same thing though, although never seen or used on myself.

Mixed responses on the UDM so far, not sure who here has one yet?

Apparently Very heavy?!

PC is a good allrounder imo. - Contact 182_blue (Shaun)

I want something that I can achieve good results with and not have to much risk of ruining the paint. I thought PC was a generic term for mechine polishing things! Shows how much I know about it.

Neither the PC or UDM will damage your paint if used properly, the UK spec UDM seemed to have issues, in theory its greater correction power should be an advantage but the jury is out on it. The PC is a proven product.

Just ordered a pc as it is a proven product as Rich says. It's lighter too.

The udm looks identical to the pc, I'm guessing it was just an excercise in reducing production costs to boost profit....(but that's just my uninformed opinion)

The UDM is the guy who runs Autopia's clone of the PC, was meant to address the issues the PC has - underpowered and vibrates to much.

so is the pc that bad? :S

Vibrations seem to vary from machine to machine, I find it fine tbh. It does have its limitations when it comes to the paint correction ability.

Does it not do either then as far as we know (UK spec)?

Vibrations where present in the UK test machines IIRC, and the cable was to short, not sure on how it is power wise

My PC vibrates like a b**ch, the backing plate in in tight and the pads is square to the plate, still does it.

I'll end up with vibrating white finger if I kept using it. I've never had good results with it though but thats more down to me.
