massive favour needed from ph1 and ph2 owners

can someone with a ph1 (no uch, very important!!!) unplug the coil pack connector and firstly tell me how many pins are on the coil pack plug, then tell me how many wires are on the plug connector coming out of it

then can someone with a ph2 (or a ph1 with a uch) do the same?

basically you should have either 3 pins or 4 pins on the coil pack, then 3 or 4 wires on the plug connector coming out of it, im basically trying to work out if having a 4 pin connector and a 3 wire plug make any difference (im hoping it does lol)

both coil packs are the same 4pin (all 2.0 RS clio's)
should only be 3 pins on both phs1 and phs2 coil loom

i thought the same as with the extra part on the right hand side it wouldnt fit in the 'box' section on the back of the plenham!

its a control module that runs things like lights, immobiliser, dash warning lights etc etc

anything that connects the cabin electronics to the engine bay electronics goes through the uch

however early phase1 clio's were not fitted with this

Just took some quick snaps for you. My 2000 'W' ph1 172 has three wires but four pins

starting from Closest to the bulkhead end it goes Blank, white, beige, pink

just to clear up the one in the pic isnt mine mate, btw nice quick edit there lol

mine is a 4 pin connector with 3 wires coming off the plug, so looks like that isnt my problem

edit: just seen burp's reply, absolutely spot on mate thats what i was after

right so now ive ruled that out on to the next stage........

still thinking its the ecu, but dont want to commit to the price of another decode until im sure

small earth lead that comes off near the starter wires to the back of the engine, where is that 'supposed' to be earthed to?

another 3 pin lead around the same place as the earth lead, whats that for?

another 3 pin plug iirc runs at front of car towards right hand side of rad (as you look at the car from the front) any ideas?

this is everything i havent got plugged in, i highly doubt they have anything to with it not running but anything is worth a try!

right the small earth at the back comes out of the loom around where it branches off one way for starter, another way for ecu, and another for injectors etc

the speed sensor with the 3 wires, where does that plug into? dont remember connecting that

Goes to the speed sensor in the gearbox

you dont mean the cps do you? that has 2 wires? and you dont mean the speedo drive as yours will be mechanical like mine!

where exactly does the speed sensor plug into on the box (ie top back, side, bottom etc)

please god let this be the answer to my non starting problem! :quiet:

no mate not the cps. its on top of the box im sure of it. With mechanical speedo it will still have a (road) speed signal sensor wont it?

My engine management knowlege is mostly ford, fiat and alfa and they have.

Dont think this will sole your non start tho. What are u missing? spark? fuel?

hmm i will have to look into it at the weekend

well im pretty sure im not getting either spark or fuel, but without taking injectors out im not 100% on no fuel, definately no spark though!

you dont need to take injectors out you just need to find out if they are switching. do you have a noid light?

if not try and feel if they are clicking while someone cranks it.
