Depending on how good the paint shop is mate. We have 6 test cards for each colour we paint.

completely out of your hands tbh

if it matches it matches if it dont it dont.

you can try polishing your car up, but if its clean and the colours still out then thats the painters problem not yours

Also depends on the colour of the car. Some colours are a lot easier to match panel to panel than others.

TBH if they don't match the colour then they should be doing it again free of charge until its right.

Lol, people thinking like you do my tits in.

If you're not willing to leave your car and pay a little extra to get the replacement panels fitted and blended, then it's not our problem if the shade is slightly off.

agreed , ive had people wantin just wa wing painting and no blending , and they have said its got to be a 100% match , nothing you can do unless you have full car

We get people in work with a silver car, needing a new door, and insist they "only want the door painted" no matter how much we tell them you need to do the full side. We just tell them we'll "send the quote out" then don't bother as there's no way we're going to put it out with the door completely the wrong colour.

LOL, there's always one.

Why? If a sprayer can't match the colour of your car then they are not doing there job properly. I worked as a sprayer over a summer whilst at university and its not exactly hard to match a colour providing you have had the sense to get the customer to leave there so the new parts can be blended or at least brought the car to show you so you can select the right colour swab for that car. Even if the parts arn't being blown in then you can still get a pretty close match as long as your a decent sprayer.

yeah your right there but there on about when a customer only wants a wing paintin with no blending in , then your gonna have problems matchin colours , i normally get very good matches on paint but its not down to been goo with a paint gun thats picking the right colour in the first place , you could be the best painter in the world but if you have the wrong colour , its the wrong colour an is never going to look 100% without full blending .

It's really not that hard if you have colour cards and the car it needs matching too. But like most people on here you just can't believe that somebody can actually learn to do something in a short space of time. I had more than just a shot of doing it seing as my uni summer holiday was 5 months. Though I would never do it again as it was the most boring 5 months of my life

If a sprayer isn't blending the colour, especially silver, then they're not doing their job properly. Very rarely will we paint something like a door or a wing and say, "we probably didn't need to blend that" but it's NEVER worth the risk. EVER. Way to expensive to sort if the shade is even SLIGHTLY out.

Doing a spoiler or a mirror cap etc is a different story obviously, but even with colour swabs, the car could have been painted before. Even a couple of grams mixed wrong will throw the colour completely off. Trust me. Wings and bumpers will look horrendous and stick out like a sore thumb is the shade is even a gram or two out. Maybe you never picked up on it, working with paint for just a summer, but I'd cringe and NEVER give someone their car bacl like that.

JCC, spot on mate. We're exactly the same. The people that insist they just want one panel done are usually the t***s that expect it to be spot on.

Stevie, good man for getting it blended. You'll have nothing to worry about so long as they're pretty good.

I understand that bigger panels need to be blended and we always did blend new paintwork in when I was there. What I was trying to say (quite badly) is that even without blending the car would be a close match but I do agree that it would never be a perfect match and I for one would notice this.

I know that i'm in no way as experianced as some of the people on here that do spraying for a living so I don't want to get into any arguments!!

You don't seem to understand there's a lot more to it than you learnt in your summer or whatever....

!!
That is wrong, silver can look like black and white if you don't blend.

lol. Good call ;)

You are right though, sometimes it's close. But more often than not, it's not. Paint can darken as it dries, especially reds and yellows. It's a ballache having to respray panels AND mask a car to blend if just taking a chance with painting the panels only goes tits up.

There's also the fact that without blending, the match between plastic panels and metal panels can be miles off.

  Mondeo TDCI 130
there's also the fact, if it's silver your doomed imo! I would not have a silver car, they are never ever correct once painted, its a c**t!
