May be a stuipid question....

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
That settles the question of the power output: 197 ps = 194 bhp.

Which leaves the question of what's different about the engine.

There are a number of spec changes to produce more power at higher revs, but are there any significant engineering changes other than that the intake cam timing is continuously variable rather than simply retarding at idle?

both inlet and exhaust cams have vvt on the 197

the inlet manifold on the 197 is claimed to give 5% positive pressure, not sure how that works!

different exhaust manifold with 2 small sport cats

there's some other stuff also, i'll try and find out

The main difference I notice between the two is that the 197 is noticeably more potent on part throttle in an "on / off" type of way, at low revs. The other difference to the driver is a sensation that it pulls harder after 5,000rpm.
