any way to reset this? to see if the fault comes up again? or anyway to find out what the problem is without going to a dealer?

Get it plugged into a computer will find out the code and clear it. But it will come back if the fault still there.

Mk3s will still be under warranty, I'd let the dealer sort it for free.
