Mk3 Gearbox

Hi all,

I have a 1.2 Clio Mk3 and I have noticed that sometimes when I try to down shift (usually 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd) it won't go into gear.
This happens when I am trying to slow the car down from a high speed. Is it a safety feature to protect the tranny and engine from revving too high or is there something wrong?

Thanks

Change your driving style. I don't down shift directly anymore I double clutch it. An example would be if I knew I was coming up to a stop, I'd take it out of gear, but if I didn't end up needing to stop such as on a roundabout if you have good visability, Ill just throw it in the correct gear. So I go from 3rd > Clutch down > Neutral > Clutch up > Clutch down > 2nd > Clutch up for example or 3rd > Neutral > 2nd with clutch lifted after each change; upshifts are direct though as I have no issues with them. I have a mark 3 exactly the same that isn't fussed on direct downshifts. Be sure to rev match correctly too, smooth as hell then.
