MOT / Emmisions with a sport cat

  DCi
Just stuck my 182 in for MOT and it's come back failed on emmisions.

It has been modded with a Milltek cat back and sports cat from Ktec, both are listed as road legal parts.

Just wondering has anyone had to take these parts off and put the standard bits back on to get through MOT?

The other thing is the MIL light was on (the one on the right of the dash) the bloke at the garage said this might be causing my bad emmisions and he will stick the computer on to see what the fault code is, any common things that could be sending my emmisions mental??

any clues would be helpful, if anyone has any!

never yet seen a car go through an emmisions test with a sports cat fitted.. waste of time

'Sports' cats - depending on type and design generaly do work at scrubbing the exhaust gasses sufficently to pass an MOT but only if they are hotter than a hot thing. Standard automotive cats flash off at a fairly low temp these days - as millions has been put into them and the strategies required for engine packages to meet cold start emissions.

However 'sports' cats are usualy large cell'd affairs with a metal matrix. Get em hot and test it just after you have - turbo cars tend to be a bit easier as they tend to have higher EGT's.

If its a s**t 'sports' cat though it may well just not be capable of scrubbing the exhaust gasses sufficently to pass an MOT.

Personaly I just stick a silenced decat on and store the old cat for MOT time. Nice thing about the silenced decat is that to a casual observer the silencer passes for a cat ;-)

Cheers

this is not looking good, i would have kept the standard cat for MOT time but it's cracked and blows.

might talk to the MOT man and see what happens he suggests if I get it hoooot.

will also see what the MIL light is saying in a bit i suppose :(

(just noticed I've been moved sorry!)

I have just been to the garage, and I've passed!!!! :D

They got the MIL light, they didn't say exactly what the fault was but all they did was put some cleaning type fluids in that cleared the injectors and the cat and it went through fine.

well happy!!!

Surely if you got it from ktec and it says there thats it good to pass an MOT and it doesnt, then you can get your money back for the part not being fit for purpose.

lol, just as you were typing, scrub this then!

should have attended to that MIL warning a lot sooner, I just assumed it was like people who have decats can't get it to go off.

went from 0.50% to 0.05% Co2 emmisions (pass is 0.30%) so easily through once everything was in order!
