MOT Misery

Took my 182 for its first MOT test today at Reno Service Centre in Wednesbury. Can't believe it failed!

Car was only recently serviced, so abit miffed to find the shock absorbers apparently had a severe leak. Worse still, I thought the car was still just about under manufacturers warranty only to find out it expired in Jan. The car is an import and it was first registered in France, but all the documents I have (including the Reno service book) all have the date stamped for delivery as Feb05. I complained to Customer Services and 'as a gesture of goodwill' will do the work free for me tomorrow. Fair enough, happy with that.:approve:

However, not the full story. I mentioned that the ABS light was occasionally showing over the past few weeks. They put the car through a mini diagnostic check which says it could be wiring fault or hydraulic unit. They think it is the worse case and the unit has gone. Price - £700 upwards.

Fortunately, I did buy an extra warranty which will cover this if it is mecahnical, but if it is the wiring, I have to pay the full cost along with the cost of a full diagostic check. Reno quoted about £76 per hour just for the check and they estimate between 2/3 hours to do it. :dapprove:

Anybody know if the hydraulic unit is a common failure or is it more likely wiring? Cheers, Jean

hellooooooaaawh in the black countreeeeeee,..

the first mot is a killer. mine was, and I still think it's shocking reno knock these cars out of the factory without any longevity.

the other stuff I'm unsure of, do a search.

and,.. stay the hell away from the main stealers you muppet. they're crap and expensive crap.

find a trustworthy indie.

Only went there becase they serviced it whilst it was still under warranty and it's local. I needed new brakes recently and after their quote, there was no way on this earth I was paying it. To be fair though, even though the prices are rip off, I've been happy enough with the quality of their service and how they treat me.

The plan is to let them do the work for free tomorrow and take it from there. My warranty policy will only pay £40 max labour charges per hour so if I want to use Reno, I can but I must pay the extra. If they are prepared to bring the labour down then I'll go for it, but if not they can go and whistle!

Fingers crossed it is something stupid. Not sure how they could tell if it was knackered beings as they haven't yet done a full diagnostic check, but I'm certainly no expert. It'll be a stinger if true.

I feel your pain on the shock side....mine failed in December due to a major shock leak....something that occurred on the day of its MOT as i had the car on the ramp at work the day before to check it out, and there was no leak!!!

I'd get the abs sensors and rings checked first then check the wiring on the abs system.

Failure are rare.
