If you're into games then it's fair enough spending out on a decent mouse and keyboard - it can make all the difference.
But if it's for general PC use, then there is a point where the extra expense just doesn't justify the added quality /functionality.
I'm putting together a system at the moment and my budget keyboard and mouse combination of choice is:

Das keyboard. Oh ye !
Das Keyboard allows up to 12 keys to be pressed simultaneously. Great for fast typists and gamers alike.
NEVER! I always buy the best keyboard and mouse combination I can afford, if you think about it, these are the bits you'll be using all of the time, better to pay twice the money now, rather than replacing them every 6 months.
just a question, you specified you want a USB keyboard, any particular reason? It's just you can't plug anything else into the PS2 slots apart from keys/mouse, so it makes sense not to use up a USB slot when you could avoid it.
But I'm sure you have a reason if you specified it.
Razer Lachesis Mouse best thing ive every used !!

4000dpi is soo pointless. It's all a bit gimmicky as far as i'm concerned, running at higher dpi just basically means it moves quicker across the screen!!
i have a logitechs g5 and a g15, which i'm fond of, keep them both at standard settings, don't really use the extra keyboard functionality much. Just like it for the backlikghting and the info display at the top
4000dpi, 9 programmable buttons and onboard memory to save 5 gaming profiles.
Your average off the shelf mouse has 800dpi and would feel rather sluggish after using a much higher dpi mouse.
thats the one i got :approve:
it is fricking amazing!!
being able to change the DPI on-the-fly is dam useful.
