Took it easy with my car for the time being. A combination of willpower and the fact that most of the Christmas period was spent drinking meant that for the first 1,000 miles, I didnt blat the engine too much.

Last night, the four-figure mark was broken and I decided to get it a 6,000rpm+ burst on the M66 sliproad.......

Heheheheh ......... heheheheh...... hehe :D :D :D

Why is it, that I now feel that my licence is in jeopardy......

You should have blatted it from the word go! There are people on here that say thats the way to get the engine bedded in properly, but hey ho, that discussion has been done to death!

Enjoy your car man, but watch out for ice, rain and the old bill ;)

I think the ideal way is to give it some beans occasionally but not all the time. Although there are people on here who screwed it from day one and have a "quick un" and people who did it by the book and also have a good un.

Each to their own I suppose. I guess you could treat it with kid gloves and it would still go with a bang while others may last ages whilst regularly getting ragged.

Chris - is your occasional blat mentality from your days with the R5 GTt? A blast "every now and then" worked fine for me too, with the Punto GTt. Im still in the habit of letting the 182 idle for a few seconds before switch-off - a legacy of cooling the turbo from the Fiat. Sad - but it cant do any harm.....!

i ragged my 172 from new and all i know is it pulls more car lenghs than another 172 i know off.. controversy or is it the piston rings sealing ?

either way = fastcar or faster car with shortened life span. your choice
