So tempted by something like this to replace the 182 track car. I know its scruffy but I'm tempted to throw in a bid or contact him with an offer around £2.5k as its well spec'd and looks ready to track!

Thoughts?

That looks really tempting, would be a good fun track car provided it hadn’t got much rust. Looks promising though.

EDIT: Also, it will probably make a hilarious noise if the throttle body is in the standard position, they can properly scream.

Couldn't go from a 190hp 182 to a n/a mk1/2 mx5, it would be far to pedestrian!

TBF, a nasp 1.8 isn’t far off a clio until you get up to higher speeds.

A supercharged one is great fun, I know someone who had one and want to do it as well one day.

  Mk5 Golf GTI :)
I've driven quite a few mx5 over the years. 1.6/1.8 compared to a clio no way the mx5 would get close all things being equal.

Unless the road or track had a hundred bends in a short period of time.

Seems after a bit of reading a head skim (50 thou+) can increase n/a power somewhat coupled that with the basic breathing mods of intake and exhaust you should see half decent gains for not a lot of money from the 1.8 nb.

One close enough here I could go test drive with the all important Torson LSD, albeit full on mid-life crisis spec but I kind of like it and would look pretty good lowered on coilovers with aggressive geo, roll bar, maybe black wheels etc.

Scabby rear sill tho

Front chassis rails rust like a total b*****d on the Mk2, if the sills are showing rust chances are the rails are worse.

I love my MX-5... It's officially the car I've owned the longest. They can push on quite well in the right hands but yes, you'd notice a significant lack of power coming from a Clio to a stock MX-5. I wouldn't let it put you off though, they're great fun.

When I owned my 91 Eunos Roadster I loved every minute of it. In fact the car I part-ex'd for it was a 172!
The only thing I felt it needed was a bit more grunt, so a supercharged one would be fantastic to drive I reckon.

I used an Mk2 MX5 as a donor for my Wsetfield (1.8S with the LSD), it was an MOT failure as the seatbelt mounts were rotten, yes the double skin chassis legs were worse!
Wouldn't mind the supercharger!

My old mx5 was supercharged for a short period of time it was good but belts slipped off so many times.

Nose bearing needed replacing on the supercharger

I had standard width wheels and budget tyres...it mostly just wheel span in first
