My min max bottle (coolant) is on min!

Hey guys, showing my extreme lack of liquidy knowledge, is it ok that my min max bottle is just below min? noticed it before while topping up the screen wash! what should i be topping it up with?? I think its a yellowy liquid!!

Stop laughing! lol, thanks,

Si.

its the coolant, you will need to look in your manual to see the right ratio of anti freeze to water. but... NEVER take the top off when the engine is warm/hot, as its under pressure. Also dont let the anti freeze thouch the paintwork or your skin as its corrosive

Do you work for renault at all?!;)

Just add about 1 part antifreeze to parts water till its just below the max and itll be fine. As lunner says though do it when the engine is cold.

It could be worse than that, the level will always read a certain amount as the inlet aperture from the header tank is raised slightly. It could be very low. I would fill it up quick and run it to get the air out and then fill it again to the max level.

You cheecky b*****d...PMSL.....just top it up with a bit of water it wont hurt as its such a small amout, if you wana be perfect then pop down your dealer and get some coolant

Thanks guys! I think ill go to Renault and buy some? as i dont want to feck anything up! its bad enough that its french and falling to bits! ;-)

Dont halfords etc sell some kind of mix? would that be ok if they did? or does it have to be special Renault coolant!?

Should I fill it up to the "MAX" level?

so many numpty questions! thanks,

Si!

Yes fill up to the max !! Doesnt matter on the make of the coolants but its probably better that you do keep to the same one !! The coolants might not mix properly etc !!

When I did the refill on my Clio, I used some Halfords brand stuff, as long as the ratio with water is correct youll have no trouble. One thing tho, depending on how long you have had the existing coolant in your engine, it is best to do the job properly and flush the system first as I have ben told that mixing coolants isnt the best idea!! Especially if your topping up coolant that has been in the system for a while - or of a different type (make)

As for filling... you fill up to the "MAX" level while the engine is cold with the mix, and then run the engine til warm!! This allows the coolant to circulate through the engine. Let the engine cool, and then top if required with water.
