or you could update the firmware which takes about 15 mins and fixes and bugs, especaily orange software ones!

iv not had a single problem with mine and im 2 firmwares behind the latest one!

Iv had orange software phones before and they are s**t!!!

Nokia in general are the MS of the phone world, they release buggy unfinished OS/wares and let the general public beta test them.

which is why phones take an age to come out on orange as they wait until the phone is stable or have their own firmware.

it just seems that some people still have the old firmware and are experiencing problems, my orange firmware is great though.

Orange take so long because like Vodafone they like to add numerous stickers to the handsets and completely butcher the firmware to include all their useless functions, whereby any button that's pressed accidentally dials onto their WAP pages, along with other useless things.

O2 provide the best phones IMO, unlocked, unhindered and unmolested.

Technically yes, but you'd need it to be unlocked and you'd need some firmware writing tools/software. Probably easier to pop down a local phone shop and have them do it for you mate, £10 or something.

Not true, orange just take ages to buy in phones.
CPW sell generic stock on orange from day one.

There is no N73 replacement yet.

It is still very much current.

My first one was s**t. So was my second. My third had the revised firmware with the icons across the top. Much better but of late has slowed right down. If it goes into the black-screen-saver it almost dies and takes ages to come back to life. Getting so sick of it.

Get it generic asap.

Use NSS to change it to whatever flavour you want (i quite like music editon)

Tom - thats the plan. Perhaps you could do a little guide for us phone noobs. Orange are no help at all.

Luke how did you do yours?

I downloaded a 'text improver' from nokia via the WAP , although tbh I think I fluked it as I was 'wilfing' but I'm sure you can find it lol

EDIT : go to the 'download!' option in the main menu screen (although this may not be on oranges firmware!) then click SMS accelerator, I was sceptic and it took two attempts to install but you genuinely can now send a text and click the red cancel button and get back to the wallpaper and lock it without it freezing, the phone seems to be a bit quicker but it was never overly slow or at least It was the texting causing me most distress lol!

Hope this helps!:)

Here’s a tutorial that will teach you how to update your phone’s firmware to a Nokia original version (without your operator’s personalization) with NSU (Nokia Software Update – the official Nokia program).
NSU reads the product code of your phone and it searches its database for a newer version of the corresponding firmware in order to upgrade it. This is why you will need to change the product code of your phone into a non-branded product code, before running NSU.
Download the « NSS » software in order to change the phone’s product code. This is a beta version of a program that you can download on the site of its author here : http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/files/NSS/NSS10383.zip
After that, download NSU here: http://www.nokia.com/A4176089?N73.

NOW WE CAN BEGIN:
Install NSS
Install NSU
Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
Open NSS and click on “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
Click on the icon « Phone info »
Click on “Scan”
Now you can change the product code (on the right of the « phone info » window of NSS). For a Nokia n73, type the product code 0529785 and then mark the case “Enable”.
Now press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed !).
Close NSS and you can proceed now with the NSU flashing.
When the flashing with NSU is over, start-up your phone and you’ll have the pleasant surprise that your phone’s firmware is the latest Nokia non-branded firmware in date!

NOTE: I advise you to disable any antivirus and firewall on your PC during the flashing.

In order to find out the product code for other phone models, download the firmware for your phone model, connect your phone to NSS, click « Scan », then « Flash », and after that look for your product code when on « Market » you will see your country. Write down this number, then you can start the manipulation as described above. Anyway, we will soon have the product codes for all the models, so we won’t need this step

Codes
N73 Internet Edition Product Code :
0539366 (Hong Kong’s language pack: English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese)
0539364 (Taiwan’s language pack: English + Traditional Chinese)
0539295 (Arabic, French, English) (People say it is ME edition)
0539269 (Swedish, Norwegian, English) (People say it is ME edition)

N73 Music Edition :
0537289 Euro 1
0539239 Euro 2

N73 RM-133 EURO Music Edition
0537289 Euro 1

Tom, is it advisable to back up the phone numbers and/or photos etc before doing this?

as tom says, generic product code it, then flash the latest firmware!

iv put the music dition one on as it has better MP3 player. not a problem with it at all, and iv got loads of crap on it, 1000's pf txts, 100's of pics, etc!

need to update to the latest one yet though, there are 2 more out since this one!

Even with the latest ME firmware I think the phone is incredibly slow for doing simple things like reading incoming sms and writing sms. Menu access for each of these tasks can take upto 5-6 seconds. The N73 is the slowest Nokia symbian phone I've owned.

^^ what network are you on?

the answerphone icon is part of the network service not the phone itself.

My N73 '3 mega pixel' camera gets raped good and proper by SE's w800i's camera! Only upside is the good headphones for listening to my mp3 collection..

n73 cam is very good still! :)

Just done the firmware update (ok last night) been using the phone all day and I've got to say its a new phone!!

Much much quicker, everything is night and day improved, although the slider opening and transition into camera still isn't quick enough imo. Although that is a small price to pay IMO.

Mucho Happy :D:D:D:D:D:D

Er yeah, although I only used the NSU, as I didn't need a new firmware, as the o2 base is fine. Its literally a different no exagerration!

I may try to make it a music edition at a later date but Im happy to just have it updated lol.

Soooo nice :D

Any idea how to put the images in albums but not let them be visible if you go to the main image gallery. Pisses me right off as I want to see all my car pics together.

Click on photo, select add to album, then new album , obviously name it and then repeat et voila!

Should add its not that great but you can then click on view albums and the photos will be easier to access.

PCSuite my actually add folders in the gallery though.
