N73 Software update

I recall reading on here a while ago about a myriad of updates available.

I've just bought an N73 and would like the latest software update for it.

Does anyone have a rundown of how to do it please?

if its an orange one its got a very good firmware already on it and i personally wouldn't upgrade.

It's an O2 one and the nokia updater tells me there isn't an update available for it.

Just surprised it's a bit slow to be honest, was told updates made the firmware better.

possibly o2 aren't using a decent firmware, my mates 3 one had an update for it the other day, was something like 60mb odd.

my orange is fine though, especially the bluetooth which is something the earlier firmwares were struggling with.

i got mine 4th Jan so must have been lucky to get the enw firmware.

my 6680 was a great phone but bluetooth was always crap on it, this one connects to my tomtom bluetooth in about 1 second.

I imagine it's very similar to updating an N80.

Here's some instructions for an N80 that I've used and pm'd people on here...
(the product code you'll need for an N73... well you'll have to search here for it)

I got my instructions from a thread on this site.

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showt...0004&highlight

or check the last post on this page:
http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showthre...=135312&page=3

Have a look and see if you follow it.

or, follow my instructions but you'll need the clio link above for the locations of the files you'll need.

Basically, download NSS, install it. Download and install GSM magic.

Run NSS, Run GSM magic.

Click Enable on GSM Magic

Go back to NSS. Connect your phone to PC via the cable. Select PC Suite mode.

On the top right hand side of NSS click 'Scan for new devices'

Then on the left click 'Phone Info'

On the right hand side where it says Product code. Enter the relevant product code (you may have to click enable first - if not click if after entering code).

Click 'write' - further down.

With your phone still connected, close NSS and GSMm.

Go to the Nokia Service Updater by going to nokia.co.uk selecting support. selecting your phone then selecting 'phone software update'

You must have your charger plugged in but after this you should be fine.

It'll take a while but do not use the phone while it's doing it.

You can upgrade to latest N80 version on the Nokia site or if you use N80 internet edition product code it'll change your phone to that. You can do this even if you have a standard N80.

Product code you want is

N80 UK - 0529378
N80IE (Euro1 (same as UK)) - 0539363

If you upgrade to N80 you can further upgrade over WIFI if you have it at home. Menu>Connect.>Device Mgr.>Options>Check for updates.

With N80IE the NSU will put the very latest on.

All of this is at your own risk. It is easy if followed correctly but don't blame me if it goes wrong. It will invalidate your warranty changing product code.

Back up all your contacts and stuff to Memory card.

What chris said does reflash your phone, i did it to mine and there is no sign of it being an 02 phone at all, and it added some extra features.

no, it updates the existing software, it does not flash the phone

oh and im talking about updating from the nokia website

i changed my product code to update, as the nokia updating software will only update generic models. Done it about 4 times and no probs!

any O2, orange, t-mobile etc, etc branded software is rubbish.

I'm running the generic ME version and no problems at all.

There are 2 more updates out since I last did it though!

Nokia N73 = WORST phone I've ever had!
Nearly smashed the fuka off the wall countless times due to how irritating it is.

just upgrade the software, its a simple process! and fixes any bugs!

All software has bugs, thats why they release new versions and updates!

iv had mine for ages with a 2gb card and its been spot on!

Think you got that wrong, orange always wreck there phones.
not in this case, its the only real working firmware i have heard of on the networked versions of the phones.

Mine works a treat, fast, full of features that work and have not had a single problem, people think they are getting something better by upgrading the fw but thats not always the case, if it works then no need to upgrade and mine is fantastic.

Okay, I've read the above and I'm baffled.

Does anyone have a very simple way of reflashing the phone and a simple set of instructions that I can follow please?

Ta.

All Nokia Smartphones are crap, slow buggy things. I've had the N70, N80, and N73 all on different networks, and got rid of them within a month. Even the Nokia firmware without any network tweaks is slow. I like to be able to read a text when I get it, not 2 minutes later.

My method is simple if you follow it step by step.

The product code you want for an N73 is 0527009

or if it's an N73 Music Edition or to turn a normal N73 into an ME is 0537289

I hadn't even noticed you had posted those instructions :D Not really sure why the OP asked for clear instructions then cause those are fairly straight forward.
