Nearly been a year.. Upgrade to better or stay put..

Coming up to winter and my insurance renual is due soon.. Will have my 1st NCB and will be my 2years driving.

I currently own a ph2 172.. Had it for nearly a year now.. But what do I do!?!?!?

Iv been quoted £1100 for next year from currently paying £2700
do I get rid of the 172 And the money I get from it pay off existing loan and and other debts I have then buy a bigger better newer car fr around 10-12k.!? Or keep the 172..

Been quoted £1300 for a 197 F1 or do I take a plunge n buy something alot nicer like a 350z / S200 / Alfa 3.2 GT ... They will prob be around 1.8k-2k to insure but a hole lot of a beta car!! Bare mind I ain't paying over 2k for insurance, 2k is my limit so those cars only apply if they actually fall under that mark. Even if not I would be happy with a 197 for a year or so

financialy i'd be a little bit (5-10%) better keeping the 172

so either 172 with other depts or buy a better car with no other depts but paying more for car N insurance obv..

What would you do!?
I'm edging to upgrade but I just can't decide

Depends what you mean by better car...The Renault sport is a very good car. It's capable, useable, cheap to run and maintain. With "nicer" cars come "nicer" price tages and runnin costs as i'm findin out. 500+£ for rear tyres etc!

If you can warrant the financial burden go for it!!

You have a 172 (worth tops 5-6k?). Selling that would settle debts = 5-6k debts?

But then buying another car for 10-12k (why this figure?). Which would surely equal 10-12k debts?

So your choices are..

1) Sell the 172, clear your debt and then create more debt by getting a car worth triple the amount and then £2k on insurance

2) Keeping the 172 and pay £1100 on insurance.

If selling the 172 would clear your debt, then it's hardly an amount worth worrying about. Just keep it and get a more expensive/faster car when you can afford it and it doesn't cost a stupid amount to insure.

I just want something better, bored of the 172 tbh.. Love it just bored of it if I keep it Ino il jut waste more money on trying to improve it..

But... but I spend 8 hours every weekend cleaning it with hundreds of pounds worth of cleaning crap and it's got turinis and coilovers not to mention it's never been ragged and is mint. Why yes I do attend trackdays, how so?

I've spend thousands on cars...It's a hobby yes, but looking back on it, i can't help thinking money could of been better spent elsewhere...A welL!!

sell the 172 or whatever french s**t u have got, buy a cheap German run around, get cheap insurance and pay off debts! then when you have money, that you have earnt (not just borrowed) go and buy a nice car.

P4ers, defo keep the 172 pal, save up, stick with it and buy the car outright or as close to it as you can. Think what will happen when you need money in the future (kids, houses etc) and you are 12k behind to start with!

The max you'd pay for insurance is 2k?? WTF. Never paid more than £1,100.

Keep the 172, save for other things, like the deposit for a house (unless you already have one, or have some evil plan to obtain money for a house/deposit).

I know its easy to get bored and into for cars but DON'T DO IT MATE!
If you really want to swap then why not save a little few hundred quid say, sell and make a more sideways move keeping you entertained for a few more months whilst you pay more of those debts off!?!
What happens if you want to move out in a year or so and struggle to afford it because of the payments on a dear car!?

Cars (or most things) are only worth what someone is willing to pay. If any of the cars in the below link are bought for the money they are advertised at, then they are theoretically 'worth' that much.

Most (96+%) are not private sales and when buying from a garage, you are usually going to pay extra, but still doesn't detract from the point.

Regardless of anyone's opinion on the prices of any individual car (I personally think there's some overpriced) in the link, or the group of cars as a whole, they wouldn't be for sale at this much if the sellers didn't think they'd get the money, or close to it.
