Need Help: Central Locking

Hi, the batteries went flat on the remote central locking fob in my sisters 1999 Clio 1.4 RT , and it took her a couple of weeks to get round to replacing them. Now shes put new batteries in the fob, but it doesn't work any more. The red LED in the fob flashes breifly as it did when it was working ok, but the car doesn't respond. Has anybody got any ideas as to what may be wrong? Does the fob need reprogramming to the car or anything like that?

Sounds like it needs recoding, half an hours labour but it has to be a reno garage
