New Tyres - Back or Front

  Skoda Fabia vRS

ive just ordered two new tyres to replace my fronts

now, should i put the new tyres at the back, or at the front

im pretty sure i should put em at the back, and move the current backs to the front, which still have tons of life left in em after 12k.....

thought i would ask first though

i needed new rears recently.. (obviously the previous owner had done what you are suggesting at some point) but i got 4 new ones anyway as they dont make the original tyres the mk1 172 had.....

erm hang on...

do you need to ask this ?

unless u can fit 4 tyres on the front then i think the back is the only option ? ;)

unless u want to leave knackered ones on the front and replace the rears that dont need replacing ?

he he he :)

i thought the back though, hehehe

i.e. take worn tyres off front, put brand new tyres on rim, remove rear rims and stick those on the front, put rims with new tyres on, on the back

yea ?

New ones should go on the back! Saw it on some telly show once. Top gear?

Something to do with grip. If you place the new ones on the front the grip is better but the back end can become loose and break away during cornering.

I maybe totally wrong but I am sure I saw it on telly!

ditched the spare

an yea thats what i thought Bob, thats why i asked, to make sure as i couldnt remember where id got the idea from

ah....

well with the golf the tyres went as follows

Bought with four on it (unsurprisingly!!)

Changed all 4 five months later as i didnt like the ones it had on it.. and they didnt like my right foot...

Another few months later... hit a pothole and ripped a front.. so a new front...

Another 4 months later, both fronts were kinda deadish...

So two new ones... now technically speaking my 10th and 11th tyres the car had had.... !!

then i sold it..... :)

the clio came with good fronts and sh*t rears ?!

yes you put the best tyres on the back, its easier to control understeer than it is oversteer, and you dont really want your car fishtailing round a busy roundabout

My rears have done 24,000+ miles and out-lived 3 new sets of fronts. My current set up is good year eagles at the front - Amazing tyres, really really good and theyve taken endless abuse from me and still grip ok(ish) but theyre the best ive had. Had Bridgestone S03s - but i thought these to be too soft and wore out majorly quickly. Get Goodyears, very impressed.

already ordered the tyres mate

ive gone for those Uniroyal Rainsports, i was lookin online today an i seen a few reviews where they beat F1s, and i asked on this forum and a lot of people rate them very highly

have to see how they are, can always replace the current rears with F1s when they run out (currently Nankang NS-1 only paid £25 a corner for em!)

Well ive put my knackered fronts on the rear and rears on the front in-order to wear out the old rears (now on the front if you follow) and any damp weather results in me driving slower than an old granny - or fishtailing about roundabouts as previously mentioned!

Depends;

Its worse to put worn tyres on the back as your arse end will be trying to overtake you on every corner....but you say the 2 tyres youre keeping still have plenty of life in them. If they still have plenty of tread left, put the new tyres on the front.

ive had RE720s which lofty got me.....and went through them in 1800 miles, front AND back!!!!

they were excellent, great grip (as good as you can get on a 185/60/13 without resorting to semi slicks) and fab in the wet......i can stop on them!!!lol

Anyway, replace news on the rear.......
