Newbie with a few Q's

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Hi all,
Just bought a 2003 Iceberg Silver 172 and have a few Q's. I have previously tried searching as much as poss. Here goes.

Do all Clios come with a 3 yr warranty? even the Imports?

How do I tell if I have bought an Import?

Where can I get a front cup splitter from without re-mortgaging my house? (Dealer wanted £144)

Have noticed a buzzing noise coming from behind the plastic trim surrounding the map reading light and interior light switch. Is there a temp sensor up there for the climate? has anyone else had this noise, or fixed it please?

Are there any other common faults I should be keeping an eye out for?

Where can I order a wheel centre cap removal tool/key?

Sorry there are so many Q's.

Thanks in advance.

Think that imports can have the warrnaty upgraded somehow.

The buzzing is a small motor or fan for the climate control IIRC, a few people have replaced it on here, either sorts it or comes back in the end again.

Dealer for the wheel centre tool i would think.

Hi mate.... welcome to CS!!!

Some answers to your questions:

Imports usually come with less then 3 yrs warranty, depends when it was build and how long stored before sold etc...

Mine is an import but dont know how to tell for 2nd hand cars.... would assume its amoung all the details of the car.

Splitter: look in selling section or post that your after one.

Buzz noise: had this on mine, just pulled the plastic down and moved some of the wires about, put it back and its fine.

Common faults: alot of rattles, grinding noise when turning sharply slowly= renault fix it under warranty, engine mount or something, ticking noise on tickover, cant think of any more right now but i'm sure some others will come up.

Might be some on here for sale, ebay or even renault as they cant surely charge a fortune for that!! lol

Hope this helps..... die hard CS ers will know better then me though lol

Also don't worry about the idle when starting from cold, they all do it as a safety measure to stop possible damage.

Phone your local Renault and they will be able to tell you if it is uk car or import, thats what I did before I bought mine :)

Imports DO come with three year's warranty, they are covered the same as UK cars. You can call Renault UK and give them your chassis number and they will be able to confirm it for you. AFAIK the only ones which have two years are from Cyprus.

Imports usually don't have alarms, just immobilisers - although there are a few which do. They tend not to have etched windows either, and don't always have locking wheel nuts. I can't remember what else!

I had an import which I was told had an alarm when I bought it, and subsequently I found out it didn't. It cost me £200 to get one fitted.

One of the most common faults is a knocking noise when you pull away which in some cases is the engine mounts, in others the heat shield knocking on the exhaust and in others the top suspension mounts.

I think all this is correct, but if not I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will say so!

Welcome to Cliosport! :)

How do I tell if I have bought an Import? - as said above, most imports dont have an alarm (look for the ultrasonics at the top of the windscreen pillars), locking wheel nuts, or etched windows - and then tend to be faster ;)
You can phone Renault and they will tell you where it was "born", you just need to give them the chassis no.

Thanks for all the info everyone, I'll keep an eye out for that slow speed grinding noise.

Cheers,
:approve:
