Number plate transfer question.

At the minute, my private plate is on my MK2, I want to put the normal plates back on to the MK2 and then put the custom plates on the 197 and then keep the 197 plates off any vehicle until I come to sell it.

What form should I be looking for? DVLA centres all shut down now and I went in person last time I did a plate change.

Is it the V317?

Would I have to pay a fee to put my custom on the 197 and then another fee to put the old Y reg plates back on the MK2?

Thanks

It should be just an 80 fee

Swapped my better halfs plate from her A1 to her CLC - if you want to keep the reg number off the clio
youll have to put that on retention which is another 80 fee then a yearly fee.

I think the form your after is that one.

An our right its a pain in the dick now they have closed all the local offices

Cheers mate!

Just noticed the new log book - these plates are non-transferable on the bottom of the V5.

I can still put customs on can't I, just can't sell the '56' plates that came with the 197?

You are correct, you can still put your personal plate on, but cant retain the standard plates (on a certificate anyway) - 99% percent of the time the DLVA will now put the same plate back on the car youve put your personal plate on, once you want to transfer it back off again. Happened with the last 7 cars ive transfered mine or my wifes plate to/from, all ended up back on their originally issued plate.

Cheers for the advice dude - is the V317 the correct form? Looks a right ball ache to fill in!

If it is the V317, am I just requesting to put the plates on to the 197 and the Mk2 will be changed back automatically or is there somewhere on the form I have to fill in details of the car the plate is currently on? (The Mk2)

My brother bought me this plate as a Christmas present so he is the owner and I am the nominee or something. Does it have to be filled in under his name or would it just be easier to get him to sign the plate over to me? If so, how does he do this?

Cheers

Ive never fully understood the grantee/nominee system, as ive always been the full owner (grantee?), but I know its possible to have transfered to a new grantee/owner. Just give the form a good readx3 and should be eventually make sense.
And yes, the car the plates coming from will automatically get a transfered from filling in the one form.

I was meant to own these but my brother filled the form in incorrectly when he bought the plates!

Cheers for the help mate, will get this filled in today - proper bugger they closed local offices. I had one only 20 minutes away which did it there and then for me!

Just a quick one, as it's all done my post etc now, how will I know when it's safe to transfer my plates?

I ask because, if say for example they applied the plate change today and I didn't get the letter of confirmation for x amount of days - surely I'd be driving around on unregistered plates?

Grantee/nominee makes zero difference when it's on the car. The plate can only be assigned to a vehicle that belongs to either the grantee or the nominee. When you remove the plate you can pick new grantee or nominee.

You'll get a letter through telling you to put the plates on. I've driven about for a good while after changing plates before and never got pulled so don't worry too much.

They give a reasonale amount of time to physically swap the plates after they do the paperwork. Even in the local office days, they would processand then allow you reasonale time to swap the plates over, get insurance swapped, tax disc etc.
