I'm after a 172, but i can't decide between a cup or a ff.

is the cup performance over a ff that much better? i would be willing to sacrifice the extra bits of spec if it was really improved, but if its not that different, is there much point in losing the leather, ac etc?

They don't make a 172 FF.
If I was buying again i'd have got a cup.

Do you want leather/xenons/climate? = 172

Do you want an arrogance that makes you think you're faster than everyone else, when in reality you're not? = 172 Cup

Take 2 guys each who can run the 100 Metres in 10 seconds, then add a 89Kg man and let one piggyback the guy up the 100 metre stretch... who wins?

Very different cars. Drive both and then decide.

Cup is lots more agile/ twitchy. Depends what you're after.

Ther thread is entiltled opinions and this guys is mine! Like it or not, i have owned both and the Cup is quicker, and quicker than every 172 i came across ( not by a lot but quicker none the less). I no longer have either so in no way is there any biased opinions!

  Nawt!!!Off road Quad!
ive had both and to be honest only reason i got a cup was cause of the colour .... you wont notice the difference at all ...

im talking about speed...not handling ...not raw power ... the guy is trying to find out with is the fastest and to me ... doesnt seem to be a noticable difference... my mate had a cup when i had a silver172 and there was nothing in it.... but you lot will just say it could be the driver ....

Mate i have a cup and it is ace.

My last car was a modded ep3 with uprated brake lines tarox discs and ds200 pads all round and had awesome stopping power and love the cups break's. Dont be put off with no abs it only really has disadvantages in the wet, and lets face it whoever drives like a tw*t in the rain is asking for trouble.

I carn't really comment on the cup vs 172 but.....the cup is very twitchy on country lanes and makes you feel on edge all the time (my misses hates it) and can catch you out if you ease of the throttle a little:eek:

If you want a roar race car feel get the cup, if you want comfet get a merc or bmw:rasp:

Where did he say he wanted to find out which was fastest? :S

He asked which had the best performance... to me thats a lot more than speed.

yea performance on a whole...im not a fast driver, although occasionally i would push it for abit of enjoyment, i get the impression the cup has a little more "personallity"?

and whys that then?

The cup is better in every way, faster, edgier, nervous(er), fun(er) ... but it has no abs and no creature comforts. If your the type of person who likes creature comforts and the backup of safety, ie TC & abs, buy a normal one.

If you just want a track car, thats a giggle everytime you drive it, but hot in the summer, steamy in the winter & darn right noisy & generally brilliant, buy a cup ... i used to have a 182 with both cup packs; and id choose my current steed every time :D :D

Oh yeah, and they actually produce 172bhp ;)

In a straight line it can go either way but would still be close(get one with a good engine!). In the twisties I can't see the cup getting that far ahead, it would be down to the driver imo.
I also prefer the mod cons you get with the full fat:quiet: It also still puts that smile on my face every time I go above 5k rpm:D

  PH2 172
haha the cup does sound good like...ive found a decent one near me too, and i doubt i'll be caning it enough for it 2 get abit nervous on a corner.

aye ive experienced the 5k rpm in my mates 182, it does bring a smile like!

If you're not planning on driving it fast/ hooning all that often, id go for the normal 172 mate.

More car for your money, and the cups nervous handling will get irritating if you're not in the mood for it. Tramlines, hard ride and very twitchy.

Try both though!

Z z z z z z z..................oh...

Lol, I love this argument, it comes up every month or so lol.

Buy the one that you like the colour of most, that's practically the only difference.
The non FF has nice wheels though.

Lol, and you've spent how much time in both?

Lol, we have a nibble lol.

In the real world ( road conditions, driver experience and Reno's engines' erratic power outputs (but Cup's got the better ones ofcourse) it all makes little difference.

  Golf R soon...
FF

Couldn't live without the leather, feels nice on the skin!?! ;)

Nothing in it performance wise either really, would you sacrifice climate control, leather, xenons and abs for 0.1 seconds off the 0-60 time!

Why not consider a 182 with cup packs....not that I'm biased, but I'm selling on in the for sale section. My mate has a 172 cup and in a straight line he pulls just a tiny bit through the first few gears, but on the dual carriageway near us mine starts to claw back the tiny gap at the top end.

My 182 leaves his for dead come roundabouts/twisty roads, as it has coilovers, smaller 15" wheels, and a renautsport cup racer steering wheel. It just turns into corners so so much better - he is finding it annoying!

Take a look - going for 5895 with all the upgrades still on it - 04 plate with 41,700 miles on the clock.

i wud like a 182 like but even tho they are the same insurance group, its about 150+ extra a year,..tbh its too much of a stretch for the 172, but sod it i want one...no pockets in my coffin as they say!

I've been in a 172, and own a 172 Cup.

Prefer the seats + AC in the 172, but prefer the colour + wheels + badge on the Cup :)
