PH1's at rock bottom ?

I'm looking (no really this time..) to sell mine in the next month. On Pistonheads and on here, they seem to be almost free... you can pick them up for peanuts, with half the car and a cambelt changed in the last 6 months.

I'm wondering if it's even worth bothering ?! My grandad's going for an op on his brain so he can't drive for the next 6 months incase of problems... he has a 6 month old car on his drive which won't move for 6 months unless someone looks after it. Also me having it means he won't be tempted to do something stupid like drive it...

My plan (which he has agreed to already) was to have his car, sell the Clio, save hard and get something fast in 5/6 months time, but now looking at Ph1 prices now, it hardly seems worth it.

I'm willing to hold out for a while to get what I want for mine, but I don't want the car sat on my drive for the next 6 months rotting.

Are people letting them go for way to little, or have they just become almost disposable now ?!

:S

I think they are starting to rise in price again, but to be honest mate, do you really want to sell it? what would you buy?

For the money you simply cant go any faster, and still have 35mpg and 5 seats and no silly running costs

Low mileage Decent ones WILL fetch good money.

As soon as it gets to 90,000 miles its just another 10 year old Clio to Joe Public and hence the need to reduce the s**t out of them.

I hope they're going up haha.. There's a few around for the 2.5k mark.

Don't 100% know what I want yet. Something different. Z3M Coupé, Scooby, FRS Mk1, Porsche, *something* with an oil burner, helicopter gunship .. all depends where I'm working in 6 months time. My escape plan from current job is on high alert. I'm currently commuting a whole 1.5miles at the moment, which is killing the car. I'm biking in when I can ! Don't do walking.

My main thing was to save some cash and have a nice chunk of time to research and find 'the one' without any ties etc. I'll have no issues/costs with the borrowed car. Only fuel, which is going to be better than the Clio, and regular 95 RON too....

The ones ive seen for dirt cheap have loads of miles and most havent really been looked after, or some dreamer has it and done ridiculious things and now he cant sell it! Seen decent ones too though, for decent price!

Ive been looking for a decent black 172, so keep me informed;)

Depends what you call perfect...

100k on the clock. Bodywork is fine. Front end is only 11 months old. Wheels got powdercoated last Feb.

Few things need doing such as I think it's missing a tooth on an ABS ring, and 4th gear can crunch sometimes. Other than that .. it's fine (apart from being French!). Rear bumper could do with a re-spray but it was like that when I got it. Oh and the CS.net sticker is missing half an N, the E and the T as I foolishly ran an ice-scraper over it, a week after putting the sticker on :dapprove:

You said it, its french. Miles isnt really a drama if all the belts etc have been done and its been serviced when needed!
Had more drama with my clio than any other car ive owned, lol

Low miles ones in decent condition are still going for decent prices mate.
I've got mine up for £3k and I've had fooking loads of interest. Someone coming to see it tomorrow.

^^ I never even advertised mine and got top dollar for it!

People will pay good money for well looked after examples.

Just seen your advert Evil, good luck with the sale.

I sold my last phase 1 in September, it was a decent one but the belts would be due about now and it only had a months tax. I put it on for £2850 and two days later after a lot of interest accepted £2750 for it. The next day a guy 200 miles away asked for the buyers number, the following weekend he bought it for £3400. So I think decent ones like yours are still quite sought after.

To the uneducated they will just see it as an older example of the ph2 172 which can be had for little more. That pushes prices down as most will sway toward the ph2 172 or even Cup. I think the majority of people will also find the ph2 172 more pleasing on the eye.

It bugs the sh*t out of me how cheap Clio's are!

I've had my fair share of sub £5k hot hatches and I can honestly say the Clio wins hands down... yet you can get a mint 172 for shite 106 GTI money... amazes me as the Clio beats the GTI on every level.

I know it's a "buyers market" but how the f*ck are people geting £4k for 106's with 80k on the clock and the equivilent 172 would get £2500???????????

Yeh I think in general people do think the ph2's are better looking with a nicer interior. When I wanted to return to a 172 just before Christmas I decided I either wanted a black ph1 or a cup. I went for a ph1 because of price, a cup with the same miles/history/condition would have cost twice as much. Ph1's are certainly good value for money.
