Pioneer or Alpine?

Thinking of getting a new headunit for me car but can't decide which 1? Wot do you guys think is better? think pioneer does look better, but which 1 do you think is better quality and gives better sound?

alpine all the way mate, but saying that i have a alpine headunit with a pioneer graphic EQ :S

ive had a pinoneer, very good quality unit, pleased with it, but ive heard good stuff abotu alpine, all depends how much your spending etc, but i think alpines suit the clio dash better.

if your going for a massive install then look in more detail at the specs but if its just for standard system, or upgrade speakers anbd maybe a small sub i doubt there will be much difference on performance for rrp prices.

Well basically i am looking to spend money, im going to change my sub and amp to one of the best ones

looking to get a kicker solo baric L7 sub
a HiFonics amp 2000 watts rms

if you are running a sub you want set up menus for different audio stages, ie a set up for speakers and then sub.

the 60w x 4 of the alpine is the power that goes to each speaker, the higher the watts the higher grade of speakers you can fit and therefore better sound quality.

im not fully clued up on all of the figures about power etc that goes with sound systems, might be an idea to go to a local halfrauds or motorworld etc and make out as if you are going to buy and ask which would be better etc, and email an online shop with what you want and see what they say.

Yeah and both the ones you listed are awful cheap tat!

I've got Sony now, can't wait to get rid.

Pioneer or Alpine are the big boys at that level, then obviously for a bit more you've got Becker.

JVC's high range stuff is supposed to be really good too.

I was looking at the KD-SHX751 or the 9857R myself, but the Alpine isn't as flexible.

What else are you planning to add to the system?

alpine for sound quality always but expensive nothing comes close though in terms of sound for headunits

pioneer for all round value as u get a fair bit of features for the cash

screens can be problematic

Becker and Nakamichi are supposed to be significantly better then Alpine.

The newer models especially sound a bit harsh in the high end i think, Pioneers are warmer. And to be honest there's not a lot in it at that price range anyway, down to preference

I found with the cheapo pioneer i had it was alot easier to get it to sound fine with the standard car speakers, when i put my alpine in it took alot of fiddling around to get it to sound reasonable, not quite sure why as it was awesome in my old car... but then that had much better speakers

I have owned both my opinions are

Alpine was louder

Pioneer was easier to use i.e. adjust settings

Pioneer tends to look better IMHO of course

I had my Pioneer for 6 yrs and all that went wrong was a button broke (in the 6th year)

As a JVC Engineer I'm going to have to say JVC LOL I have the KD-AVX2 and it kicks arse! The built in amp is wicked even on the worst speakers they still sound good. If anyone is interested I am getting some stock next week of AVX1 and the AVX2. I will be posting on here for some people to buy them before I shift em on Ebay

The SHX851 is a nice unit but way overpriced when you look at the AVX1 or AVX2 they do everything (except P.I.C.T.) and have DVD players with a screen built in. Take a look at Google or other threads on here and you'll see what I mean.

the 851 and 751 prices seem about right but they are a couple of years old now and dont have the Giga MP3 feature that I love so much

DB and lanzar speakers are crap. There loud and boomy but sound crap. RE are pretty much impossible to beat if you want good loud clean sounding bass that is tuneful.

Optiseries amps are pretty good though especially the older ones.

Speakers, DB audio well there not awful but theres better to be had for the kind of money they go for.

no m8 just had the db audio t rex in my install in the astra with lanzar 4000d amp sounded the bollox

i hate care audio centre as when a couple of mates took their cars there they completley fucked them up

a friend of mine had a redline cover car (black punto) had an install from car audio centre and when it came back nothing electrical worked and is currentlt taking them to court

but im saying i had good sound from mine with the pioneer dehp70bt headunit and 4 guage wiring kit but sound varies from car to car different acoustics.

what might sound good in my astra might sound s**t in ur clio fact!

personally i perfer rainbow to all of them but they are expensive some of the british makes are good but the americans in car audio are streets ahead

by the way i never pay full whack for my audio anyway lol a freind is a ice retailer and gives large discounts :rasp:

i personally don't like them as i'm an RMS type of guy

so when it takes about 15 mins to find the RMS of there gear it just makes you think that they are s**t and need spurious "watts" figures to make them look good
