Right i have a 2004 1.4 16v clio and im 18yrs old.

im with zurich international, under my dads name. i have made the following mods...
K&n airfilter,
-35mm lower spax suspension,

and soon i will have rear lexus lights.

my dad keeps saying "dont worry about telling the insurance company, coz theyll put it up and im not paying the extra."

wot do i do? im also gettin an exhaust (discrete tailpipe, not too loud ect...) and he just dont wanna tell them. really worried that im driving around on a void policy

WOT DO I DO?????? ne1 else in the same boat as me?

-phil-

hes paying £1200 a year neway,

good thinking m8. if you mod a car, dont tell the insurance co then try to make a claim, saying I sent a letter, didnt you get it? is not going to work. its the responsibility of the policy holder to ensure the insurance company have up to date and accurate information. and they will do anything they legally can to get out of paying up.

Depends on the driver. Theres no fixed rate, it varies from company to company, it varies from driver to driver. For example, if I were to lower a car and put an induction kit and zorst on it Id probably pay hardly anything, if at all. Because Im 30, have a fair bit of no claims, garage my car, and live in a safe area.

On the whole though, these sort of mods are bread and butter for insurance companies, theyre nothing that unusual. Filter and zorst are low-rated, the lowering they might clobber you over, as youre altering the mechanical setup of the car and they might think (and possibly might be justified in thinking it) that an 18 year old should get used to a normal cars handling before dropping it 35mm and driving it like its a go-kart LOL

Not that Im saying youre a bad driver or that I want to put you off it, but thats just what insurance companies will think.

you should ring them up and say you are THINKING about making these mods to the car and ask them if you do will it effect the pollicy in anyway i.e. make it more expencive.

tell them what you have done and what you will be doing but make it clear to them that you have not done it yet, only thinking of doing it.. then take it from there ;)

sorry, i worded that badly, declare the mods and offer to your dad to pay him the extra your mods add to his policy

the thing is you might not have any extra to pay!

so just ringing them to to ask is the 1st step surely...

when i had a 205GTI 1.6 and 1.9 i put a K&N, s/s exhaust they said it was ok and nothing changed only when i looked into getting the 1.9 chiped they said it would go up.
