Ok i have the most random pc problem ever but any suggestions would be great....

Restarted PC because it decided not to show up on my network, when i go to turn it back on it comes up that windows needs to be activated before i can log in.... bearing in mind this pc is over 2 years old and has never said this before... Now when turning it back on it takes an age to load, unless loaded in safe mode.... and i still cant get past the activation thing in safe mode... Please help!

Are you running a legit installation of Windows?

Have you installed any Windows Updates recently? The first update is usually a combo of the latest Windows installation utility and the Genuine Advantage tool (aka Bill's Spyware).

Yeah its all legit, its a dell but it is legit.... and no i havent installed anything as it hasnt even been connected to the net for over a year that includes at the moment... i started a recent thread on how to turn it into a media centre which was its plan....

If this helps the ram was loose the other day and the machine wouldnt turn on, but i fixed it, could faulty ram being doing this?

Thanks for quick reply :D

One more thing, just ran hard drive disagnostics from boot device menu and i got:

Drive 0: st********* - Fail. Return Code?
Drive 1: No device
Drive 2: DVD drive... etc
Drive 3: No device...

Does this mean by Hard drive is faulty? Or maybe the plug?

Do you still have the license key that came with it? Might be worth ringing up and ketting it activated again over the phone. AFAIK when a significant piece of hardware is changed windows does need to be activated again, at least thats what ive experienced when working with OEM copies of windows so I suppose it could be related to a hard drive fault...

ifi you have lost it, ring up microsoft and just make out like you have lost it then it gives you an activation key... its a touch tone number so you dont need to speak to anyone. if it still doesn't work when its activated then you may have a virus...

reeeboot lol

sorry pal missed that bit...

id suggest you try activate windows and hope for the best...

if that fails u can remove the hard drive and plug it into another system and copy your files that way
