PLease Help

I have just bought a new 172 SPort that came through a renault dealer in essex and was sold to me as a UK car.

I have just been told that imports have the lock on the passenger door and genuine UK cars have the lock on the drivers door, is this true????? If so I have some serious questions to ask of the dealer cos I could have got an import miles cheaper!!! BTW my lock is on the passenger side and there isnt one on the drivers side..

What side is the lock on your 172s????

no i think your safe..

the new renaults have been comming out with just a lock on the passengers side. my 172 (import) which was built 2002 has a lock on both doors.

Mine is an import and has locks on both sides.

I dont know if that helps.

I cant think of any other ways to tell. If its come from a Renault dealer then they are bound to have added an alarm (imports dont have them) and replaced the manual with a UK one if it is an import.

Of course, they are all imports, it just depends who brought them over here:)

exactly.. they are all imports.. its whether they came over in a ship with renault stuck on the side or with motorpoint stuck on the side.

The ECUs are mapped differently depending where they come from and resale value is affected if it is an import, plus I could have got it nearly 800 quid cheaper as an import if I wasnt planning on trading it in within 2 years.. but I guess ur right if the dealer gives me 3 yrs warranty and effectively treats it as a UK car why should I care,.

Well in all honesty I have never had any problems with my Renault Dealer, they never even asked me if it was an import.

Not heard that about the ECU. Any idea how they differ?

Resale is only lower because the car was cheaper to buy in the first place. No one in their right mind would pay full UK book price knowing the seller got it for less.

Imports have 3 year warranties too. You just have to apply to Renault.

I didnt have to apply to reanult for my warranty my dealer did it for me (about all they have been good for!!)

Im sure my car only has the lock on the drivers door!!

I doubt seriously if the ecu was different (if you see how much it costs to develope these you will see why!)

You shouldnt be able to tell the difference between an import (rhd) and a UK rhd car.

These all come off the same production line, they are just allocated to either the UK or Ireland (Euro spec) so no difference.

Models to the likes of Cyprus will be of EU spec also (as ive purchased a renault 19 1.4 rn when they came out over there) and the only difference was the elec windows were still in the centre and the clock was in kmh.

The 2 williams 1 that were allocated to Cyprus were of UK spec (its too much hassle otherwise to convert these cars).

Even the 19 16v cars that were available out there (got mine from the uk tax free though as it worked out cheaper to ship it there and back and register it) were UK spec (exactly the same except the immobiliser wasnt available as it was fitted by Renault UK).
