powerflex bushes

  clio sport 182
looking at buying some powerflex bushes for my 182 ff,noticed that they come in 2 different sizes,22mm or 23mm does any one know which size i will need?

Ive read some where that a 182 FF or Cup or maybe both have a thicker anti roll bar hence the difference in size. Do a search matey.

Poly bushes wont allow your suspension to work as it was intended. Rubber has special properties not shared by polyeuethane that is used in a specific way in the suspension.

PISCH!

However on a road car i wouldn't use them Esp as engine mounts! There's chronic!

... i'm about to change some and i'm going OEM..

Nothing wrong with the way the car drove with new setup , or ?

says who???

and how???

I say,

Rubber bushes are designed to fit tightly round the suspension and move with the components as the rubber deforms. Polyurethane cant do this (as its not elastic) and so the suspension has to revolve within the bush. Hence they squeek. If you lubricate them with grease, the water will get back into the bush after a week or so as the polyurethane to suspension interface isnt water tight like in a rubber bush configuration. Hence they start squeeking again a week later. The movement of the suspension components is altered because the bush is working in a way not originally designated by the suspension set up.

Plently of rally cars with very high specs use rubber bushes as ploy ones are rubbish in cars not specifically designed to run them.

For some bushes going poly is the best thing you'll do to the car, for others it makes no difference, and others is a pain in the arse.

Clio front ARB I would poly bush, the fitment will be NO different to rubber.

Sure, if you like squeeks, suspension with uneven movement patterns and difficulty fitting, then poly is the way to go.

If you are going to upgrade, the only proper way to do it is to rose joint.

how/why would you replace a bar bush with a rosejoint? (i don't know)

i've no experience of the replacing the Clio's inner bushes for poly, but there is opinion on search - some suggestions that it affects understeer; they're (even) more difficult to fit than the OE bushes; the OE rubber ones don't seem to be a weak point anyway; etc

personally, i'd not bother but, in answer to the original question, you could measure the diameter of the bar with calipers or something

so a rubber that slides on the end of a bar will fit different to a poly-bush that slides on the end of a bar? I'd LOVE to know how you'd rose joint that. Also rose joints dont last, they're hugely maintenance intensive on britich roads where salt and grit makes them seize up. Totally impractical except on a dedicated track car.

Oh and I've got poly bushes on my own car. I've run them for about 40k now. Still no squeeks thanks all the same

I would just fit standard bushes if I was replacing them, nothing wrong with the standard ones.
If you want to fit powerflex bushes go ahead, give them a try and see how you find them. Personally I would rather find out there s**t on my own and learn the hard way....its the best way ! but thats just me...

Baah !

You have drop links and rose joint the drop links.

Any other beginers questions?

but everyone else is talking about the inner bushes?

ed. hang on - correcting myself; thought you could only poly the inner bushes, but can see that outers are also available. apols

Beginners questions - lol

Personally (No offence) Id take Danny's opinion over yours any day of the week.

Unless you have some untold expertise or job that you haven't disclosed??

Until then id take Danny's advise.

i suppose you could (extend?) and flatten the ends of the bar, drill them, rig up upper mounting brackets, and then fit rose jointed drop links - but it does sound like a fair amount of work..

I fitted PowerFlex front bushes to my '02 330 Sport because the stock items were shocking and frequently fail. I had no problems with them at all for 20k miles.

I can only assume that a big, 1500kg car reacts to poly bushers differently than a small, 1000kg hatch?

It's also not entirely true to say that Polyurethane is not elastic, there are many formulations that provide good elastic properties.

makes for an interesting read this thread, As i was always under the impression that over a period of time it works out better to have polly bushes as they do not detirioate.

It's made me think twice about polybushing mine now lol the clio has enough squeaks as standard, I don't want to add any more.

I put poly bushes on my ARB and they have made a difference over the oem parts. Car feels more direct and they don't squeak at all, well nothing i can hear. I've bought the wishbone bushes aswell so they will be goin on soon.

Polly bushed my dogbone gearbox mount. no squeeks, and gear changes at high RPM are less sloppy.

no extra vibration on idle.
