Just be careful with these. They aren't legal and the fine has just gone up to £100!!
I know you're a police officer so I understand that you know what your talking about etc. But they're not illegal, providing they're reflective, have the correct spacing, have the BS number, have the garage name + postcode and they're full size. Nothing states they can't be pressed!
mine are dubmeister plates
You do know that anyone can print a BS number onto a plate? That doesn't mean that it's actually been tested by the British standards institute.
Look I'm not having a go I'm really not. I have a 3/4 plate on mine but I know if I'm stopped its possibly going to cost me £100.
I just think that people need to know that the legality of these plates is slightly dubious to say the least.
Shops that sell road legal plates have to be registered with the the DVLA.
I'd take a punt that dubmeister aren't registered with the DVLA's RNPS (registered number plate suppliers) scheme.
I don't see how a pressed plate could meet the criteria that you mentioned mate. dubmeister has openly admitted that they're plates haven't actually been tested by the British standards institute so they shouldn't really be printing the BS logo onto them.
I could make some number plates out of cheese and print a BS logo onto them but it wouldn't mean that the British standard institute had given them the ok would it?
As far as I aware the only number plates that are legal are the ones that you would get if you went into a registered number plate dealer and asked for legal number plates, and we all know what types of plates you would be given if you asked for legal ones in a registered dealer don't we?
BritishStandards said:Style of characters
15.—(1) In the case of a registration mark displayed—
(a) on a registration plate fixed to a vehicle first registered on or after 1st September
2001, or
(b) on a new registration plate fixed to a vehicle on or after 1st September 2001 to replace
a plate previously fixed thereto (except where the vehicle was first registered before 1st
January 1973),
each of the characters of the mark must be in the prescribed font.

(2) Except in a case to which paragraph (1) applies, each of the characters of the registration
mark must either be in the prescribed font or in a style which is substantially similar to the
prescribed font so that the character is easily distinguishable and in particular, but without
prejudice to the generality of those requirements, characters must not be formed in any way
described in paragraph (4) or in a manner which is similar to any of those ways.
(3) For the purposes of paragraph (2), a character shall not be treated as being in a style
which is not substantially similar to the prescribed font merely by virtue of the fact that it has,
or does not have, serifs.
(4) The ways of forming characters referred to in paragraph (2) are their formation—
(a) in italic script,
(b) using a font, other than italic script, in which the characters are not vertical,
(c) using a font in which the curvature or alignment of the lines of the stroke is
substantially different from the prescribed font,
(d) using multiple strokes,
(e) using a broken stroke,
(f) in such a way as to make a character or more than one character appear like a different
character or characters.
Why not?
Nothing in there that would make it illegal! http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/561/pdfs/uksi_20010561_en.pdf
I wasn't really referring to the font. I was referring more to the material they are made from and the fact they haven't been tested to meet British standards.
You seem to be completely ignoring the fact that for something to carry a BS mark it must first of been tested by the British Standards institute.
The dubmeister plates haven't been tested by the British standards institute so although they might print a BS logo onto their plates it doesn't make them legal.
Anyway, I'm not going to keep repeating myself. If you want to risk getting a £100 fine then crack on.
I'm out.
Illegal mate. As I mentioned in an earlier post I have a 3/4 front plate. I'm well aware that if I get pulled ill face a £100 fine.
You takes your chances lol
had these on my old fiesta that look better than pressed IMO. Totally legal and only like £30 from DMB (specialise in ford)
Ron, whilst we are on topic of plates, what's your legal view on 3/4 front plates?
these are not press. they're domed gel, passed every MOT and have all the correct markings/spacing/sizes
Can't see a manufacturers name on it though?
bottom right where its blurred you will find the manufacturing wording. They are legal.
