I downloaded the demo of this for the Xbox 360, it was good but seemed very much like Doom to me.

I have this downloading upstairs to my gaming rig as I type (I'm on the lappy just now) Cant wait to have a spin on it, especially as I'm planning a major £1500+ upgrade soon

Could you actually see in this though? Or like Doom, was it black, a bit more black. A bit of darkness and maybe, just maybe, a sliver of light here and there..... ;)

I have played it on my 360 and love it :). I can beat the demo in around 20/25 mins now. I am buying on Friday when it's out.

Unlike Doom you can actually see what is happening but the game does not bring anything new to the genre, certainly not anything to backup the hype over the past month or two.

It's pretty impressive. The Doom engine looks better here than it did in Doom3 or Quake4. I've only played a little bit of the demo but it seems quite good. I think I'll buy it as I'm a sucker for any half decent shooter

It actually runs pretty smooth on maximum everything including Vsync, which is making me question the reasoning behind my planned upgrade :S I think I maight wait for the next generation of GPU before taking the plunge. That should be around Christmas time maybe?

Roy - what on earth were you thinking of updating??? I thought your PC was pretty much top-spec already?

Gigabyte 8KNXP, wth Zalman passive chipset cooler, P4 3.0 @3.2 with Zalman HSF, 2Gig DDR400, Nvidia 6800Ultra overclocked.

It was a top end system about 2 years ago and is still performs suerbly. But it struggles with F.E.A.R. on max everything and its showing its age with HL2 Ep1 so I am thinking of upgrading to PCI-X. Its doing well with Prey, about the same as it did with Quake 4 i.e. probably mostly pulling 30fps, but I'd prefer 60+

Keep in mind that I always insist on Vysnc and minimum 4xAA & 4xAF @ 1280x1024 with 60fps constant, and you'll quickly see why I like to keep my system in tip-top order :D

Its still totally playable on most current games but I am very fussy with framerates so I reckon I will be upgarding very soon. Certainly in time for STALKER in 2007.

Whooaaa just finished the demo on 360 and came back on my PC, came on Cliosport and suddenly thought the floor was the wall and I was sat on it looking vertically down at my monitor! I got dizzy and nearly fell off my chair!

Its L337!!!!!!!!!

I played on the 360 demo yesterday and it made me feel really dizzy/ill as I buggered around for ages right at the end of the demo where the 3 'gravity flip' shields are!! I think it's a pretty cool game though, and a seriously wortwhile demo. Tempted to pick it up once it's out.

Hey I just tried the PC demo. I have an FX53, 1GB RAM and an X800XT. Its a two year old system so I was shocked when it set everything to the max although I had to turn VSync on.

I was even more shocked when I found it looked far sharper and just generally looked better and had more effects than the 360 version! Frame rate appeared to be marginally lower i.e. not 60fps but definitely way over 30 and probably 40+ or something. I am able to do an accurate comparison between both systems in terms of appearance as we run the PC and 360 on the same Samsung LCD TV's.

Definitely need 2GB of RAM as when I finished the demo and quit to desktop the hard disk was running for a bit and I remember on my old PC it used to do that when I quit Desert Combat until I upgraded from 512 to 1GB of RAM.

Bit stuck for upgrading this PC as I don't have PCI Express so the GFX card is at a dead end and I believe the RAM is more expensive due to it being an FX CPU.

got the demo on the 360 last night....what a strange game! wasn't quite as good looking as I was expecting tho....got a few games to trade in so might go for this, nice bit of mindless violence!

also, loving the idea of the little 3 legged creatures being used as grenades! most amusing!

It does use the Doom engine, but the lighting effects have been changed to suit the game. Not uncommon now to find alot of FPS developers using the Doom engine as it's one of the best now.

I found the PC's brightness settings were fine but the 360 was way too dark so I turned up the gamma and brightness a bit.

I have played Doom 3 and of course the Prey demo but neither have done any proper outdoor scene with a nice long draw distance. Much prefer HL2 in that respect and I swear its physics are more convincing than Doom 3. In Prey when you move those exploding ball things around it is a bit hit and miss and sometimes you tap it and it just shoots off across the room for no reason!

I have just bought it today and think its brill :). I love the fact that you can play the games in the bar...

I just got it as well, love the bit where those ghostly girls come after you and the bit on the lift where you see the plane crashing.

I actually bought another Xbox 360 to play it on! Weird cos the salesman in Comet (ok not exactly a reliable source) said that they only had one in stock and they are still selling out as quickly as they are getting them in?!?! Not sure about that as I didn't think many would be sold over the summer but I was waiting for a price drop but looks like it won't happen for a few months at least.

Anyway back to prey - it is definitely the game that Doom 3 should have been.

(baring in mind i've only played the demo)
does the fact that you can duff in the random guys that run around scared and turn that big spiking machine on after the guy turns it off for you, actually effect the outcome do you think? or is it just for "fun" ?

I haven't noticed that it has made any difference. I am a few levels from the end now and much more of the story has been revealed. Some good puzzles like the one where you are inside the cube - stupidly easy once you have worked it out after no doubt emptying the ammo on every gun trying to blast your way out!

The shuttle bit is a bit odd as it feels a bit out of place really but I suppose it made a nice break from the usual corridor stuff. Some of the big baddies are quite good too.

Quite good listening to the phone in show at each stage through the game.

Bit of shame when you meet your missus that she doesn't pick up a gun and assist you HL2 style but I guess it wouldn't work with all the gravity flipping etc.
