How old is it? You could try a warranty claim through sony directly if it's less than a year old

Mine went wrong about a month back, just wouldn't turn on. Got it on release day so well out of warranty. Rung them on friday evening, had a refurbed 60gig replacement delivered on monday, despite it being out of warranty!
Didn't have to show proof of purchase or anything.

hmmm, try resetting the av, hold down the on button for ages, think its about 10 seconds, it resets the video settings back to default.
I had this same issue when i had used it on my dads 1080p tv, set it to 1080p and then it came up with no signal on my tv as it doesn't support 1080p, reset it and it was fine, while you may not have done the same thing its worth a try first to see if that solves the issue!

+1 mine had a graphics fault a few weeks back, set me a new one no questions asked
happy to help, seems to be a common problem and a little known fix, ofcourse theres always the RTFM
