question to v6 owners

  Embarrassed to say

I can’t make my mind up on the issue of whether I should buy a clio v6 or just go nuts and fork out for a used m3 csl which is about £17k more. Need owners to tell me what they like most about their v6 (apart from the looks which is obvious) to help make my mind up. Is it true they have a supercar like noise for instance and is the handling really tricky on the limit? One of the only things I hated about my 172 was that after a mere 20k miles it felt like it was ready to fall apart, has anyone gone from a cup to a v6 are they better made?

hi mate,

im too on the market for a v6 and to find answers ive downloaded some vids from kazaa. one of them is against a subaru impreza which trounces the clio like its standing still. anyway, you can hear the engine and yes, it sounds amazing inside the car from the vids anyway.

im planning on driving one on friday to help make up my mind before i decide. im also looking at lancer evos etc but would rather a non-turbo car. i really want the clio just for its looks but have to have the speed to match.

M3 is IMO in a different league.

CSL is a different league; plain ol m3 is just an estate agents/hairdressers ride to me I’d rather wait for the v8 version. If a v6 can provide similar supercar thrills I’m thinking it would be a better option. Also speed isn’t everything to me, I think cars can be fun without being immensely fast.

its a short vid, but gives a good feel for the clio with the incar camera. there is another vid on there of a 0-60 drag run in which it made 6.42 secs which is good enough for me.

cant wait to drive one. apparently it came third in EVOs COTY 2004 against supercars! that says something.

At the end of the day a V6 or 172 are fast cars along with scoobies there only so fast you can go both safely and keeping your licence intact.

Sure you can track it but why not have a second car to track instead built for the purpoise which is much cheaper and faster.

Depends how much and of what you want if you want speed at all costs get a motorbike and turbo it nothing this side of a Bugatti Veron will even have a chance and even then I think the bike might win.

If you want a fast highly impressive car to look at which is useable (ok not the most usable car) then the V6 is an excellent choice.

The one thing holding me back is the weight issue, 1400kg. Why do they weigh so much? An evo viii weighs 1420kg and that’s four wheel drive and has toys like active yaw control.

already have a bike ;)

the last thing i want is a 16k clio that has the hype and carisma, and then to be beaten on one of those dual carriageway runs where a boy racer gets up your arse in his saxo.

im not expecting lightning speed, just dont want a sheep in wolfs clothing.

What bike do you have Im no bike expert but they look cool (Im sad I know)

An M3 can be betten in a race with a Saxo if its supercharger and there are a few of them out there.

Only way to not loose to any boy racers it to buy a plane or helicopter as there are quite a few sleepers. A V6 should do more than hold its own against most normal boy racers but hard modified ones will be a problem in most cars.

If you want you can follow in other foot steps and throttle bodie the engine (~313hp) or supercharge ir (~370hp proven but more potential)

i have an R1 and a TL1000R.

my colleague has an R32 golf and its pants. he got beaten by my mates golf gti D-reg 8v in a straight line so im keen to see how much better the clio can do before im totally convinced.

The clip with Panasonic mpeg decoder title underneath the screen, is that the real sound of the v6 it sounds almost like a Ferrari.

Well I have an evo 8 at the moment. For any evo you have to get them serviced every 4500 miles or 6 months. I’m sure a csl is no where near evo running costs. I ask about running costs in regard to a v6 clio because I’d need another car for commuting to London everyday.

Also with a csl as long as you choose different tyres to the cups running costs aren’t that bad for a sports car. It’s lighter than a normal m3 so better slightly better mpg, plus it’s automatic so easier for in town driving.

In regards to the downloads, you need to get emule or similar file sharer. I am not sure you can just download such clips from particulars sites, unless maybe their on the cliors.com site somewhere.

Have to be careful alot of jelous people about if u get one, most of em on this site...... ( but some do appreciate the car ) Always make out that the mk1 V6 is the "slowest" and "worse" car ever!!!!

But ignore them mate, they are a cracking car and not that expensive to run if u exclude petrol from the cost... tyres etc last very well :)

I only use my V6 as a 3rd car, and work away so it generally sits in the garage until Im home again. So I cant really say what the running costs are like.

Seems to be ok on petrol though, I had a 330 cabby before the V6, and that used more fuel than the v6, even if the V6 is driven harder:)

If you are going for an M3 get a normal variant with the real manual gearbox, not the SMG. I have a CSL sitting in a showroom because I dont like the SMG. Tried to like it and practised for a week with it but it just isnt me.

Youll save yourself a bundle and enjoy driving more. If the CSL was available with a normal gearbox, Id go for it.

Just my opinion, of course!
