Rattles everywhere...

I hate french cars... Getting it resprayed, lowered on shocks and springs, fitting the 16s back on and getting some new seats... but itll still rattle... why me!? At the moment its the coming from the steering column, does anyone reckon getting the same bits from the scrappies may help, I think one of my clips has broken on it... next its the top facia, three screws, but one in having "issues"...

Love Renaults but hate they way they are thrown together. Factory quality jumped in late 90s on but I aint seen a older reno not rattle a bit. However look after them and they go on and on, reno aint made a soft engine yet, they can all do the miles and take a thrash.

Uprated suspension simply make cars rattle all the time once a they have been run around a while on them.

Smile though you have a more individual and interesting car than say a golf (dull), which may not rattle much, but rarely makes you smile.

I cant wait for that then... One big rattle... oh joy. Might not bother fixing it then... My other thought was to do a "de-dashboarding" conversion. That should do the trick!

Mine always rattles and its only too true that the more hardcore your suspension is the worse it gets, really, really bad. At the moment Im on 215/35/18 rubber, Koni adjustables dialled up to max ride stiffness, a strut brace and full set of poly bushes! Its a rough ride thats for sure.

Has the dash, and column surround ever been taken off, or something, cause that usually makes them rattle like hell. Try taking it off yourself and putting it back on and see if it makes any difference, get everything screw well tight.

Fixed my sunroof this weekend, got a cotton bud and cleaned all the rubbish out - now thats silent. Then it was the steering column... Ive tried tightening it, loosening it, at the moment Im thinking it has something to do with the stereo controls, so I might get the column from a RN and strap the controls (very tightly!) to inside somewhere... My next issue was the central unit where the courtesy lights are, the bottom plate on that kept making noises... that is now corrected. Now, incase you were wondering... I cant stand rattles, unfortunately the only real cure is to buy a newer car which doesnt have any... but that is expensive

So as I stand now, the cloumn was making noise on the way to work, although I did give that a minor adjustment when I got here... it doesnt look pretty, but hopefully thatll work... guess Ill find out at home time...

Its the big wheelspeople and altered suspension - once you start modding cars there never the same as theyu were out of the factory! Lets face it the majority of our cars we discuss on this forum are onlyt meant to be running 14/15 or 16 inch alloys - they were designed with that specific set up, which may be rubbish but anything bigger and wham all the problems of the day start - even the cliocup racers run 15 inch wheels !!?? And the V6 runs 17s but its abigger car with a completely different suspension set up, rear wheel drive Theres a reason why renault didnt attempt to put 3 rim sizes more onto the V6 - as much as 0 or 21 inch rims would look nice on the V6 it sure as hell wouldnt drive nice as most of us find out when we stick 17s or 18s on! But if we can survive the continual annoyance of the super rattle and the hindered performance well its worth it.

Yeah I know what youre saying and it couldnt be more true... But is it better to be rattle-free or to be modded up and looking great? Ill just spray sound insulation foam all over the dash board and inside, that should do it!!!

Hmm mine has rattled since day one...nothing major...something slight in the door, and the suspension knocks a bit taking tight bends, but it definately rattles less than any other car Ive owned (Corsa and Golf mk1).

Best cure for a rattle is a great sound system...

Yeah, cos that isnt gonna loosen anyhthing else is it!? Id probably be driving down the street, tunes blaring and a wing fall off! lol!

Its just one of those things, you cant have a sweet handling and looking car without a couple of rattles (unless you onwn a Beemer on 20s or something or a brand new V6 etc!)
