Reject brand new Car

Today was a sad but should have also been a happy day. My lease Cup taken back to Arnold Clark with a tear in my eye. But then I now have my very own 03 Cup, what more could I want. Well to being with one that hasnt got any faults.

Picked up my new Cup yesterday, signed the documentation in the sales room, driven a few miles to where it was being cleaned (Just moved site) watched it being polished car then handed over.

But then once homeI find the following out:-

1) Tracking is out pulling to left

2)Drivers side alloy dented and scuffed

OK may be not dealers fault no PDI anymore, booked in on the 19th of this month to be looked at. Then today having a proper look around I find out the following:-

1) Paint is bubbled in a number of places on the driver door

2)The wires into the fuse box have a gaiter to stop water getting in, on mine is so far up the wiring loom as useful as Renault. I mention this becuase if I go through a puddle water will get into electics and then its down hill from there. I advise you check this on your own car

3) Taken is for it first proper drive tonight(The real first one was back to the dealership two hours after I picked it up) found the outside temperature gauge is stuck at 15oC.

Now these things are small but they really really piss me off, there no need for it. Also i just returned a Cup which was spot on no problems never missed a beat. The question is do I have a case to return an refuse or do I have to wait for a wheel to fall off.

At what point do I have case to reject it or I just do down tomorrow and have a go at the sales manager until he agrees to have my problems looked at this saturday and where possible resolved?

Thanks in advance for your replys

If they dont fix it refuse it. Personally I would refuse it on the Paint alone, as a Renault bodysho[p dont give you the same warranty as the standard Renault paint warranty, thus reducing the amount of warranty you have.

Reject and get another, why not, could it be worse?

Personally I think its the fact that we dont reject cars enough that has led to a general reduction in quality from the factory.

Sorry to hear of the bad luck but give them hell. you have paid the money and they aint delivered the goods (to satisfactory standard). Then again, you did buy a renault, what more can we expect?

you have paid alot of money for the car....you shouldnt have to put up with a lemming....if you let them try and fix the problems you have a less of a case for rejection under the trades description act.

I rejected my saxo vtr a couple of years ago, it was 3 months old with 4000 miles on the clock, it kept cutting out dangerously.

Right a letter to renault uk stating your unhappy with the car and that you are rejecting it.......go back to the dealers with the car, keys, log book, see the manger...soon as you hand back the car it then becomes there property and tell them you want a new one ASAP.

What a disappointment for you! It isnt as though the garage has an excuse that it is change of registration time when they have more than the usual amount of cars going out.

I think dealers make it very difficult for us to reject cars unless something major is wrong and in your case the faults - apart from the paintwork - seem easy to fix. Several people have had the external temperature sensor replaced, mine was stuck at 35° in the winter and was easily replaced.

No manufacturer likes bad publicity, so you should let them know that you are EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE QUALITY OF YOUR CAR and that you are giving them one chance to sort it all out.

~ Threaten them with Watchdog, which is on Tuesday nights at the moment, they love reporting about shoddy cars.

~ Then there is Trading Standards, Renault or your garage dont like hearing those two words.

~ Also Auto Express have their own Watchdog where you can e-mail, write or phone James Baggott who is pretty good at sorting out problems which you can read about every week.

Those three should get things moving. You shouldnt have to put up with a far from perfect car, and the trouble is that even if they respray the affected panels, you will feel that your car has been tampered with in a way and that it should have been right first time.

I would be round at that garage first thing in the morning telling them to keep it until it is as it should have been at the time of delivery.

Good Luck!

The thing that annoys me the most is that I liked it so much I spent my own money to buy my own. I had to pay to send the lease car back, I should be a walking advertisment to them. Also the dealer supplied the orginal lease car so in the last 8 months they have sold me two Cups.

Going to go back tomorrow lunch and speak to the highest boss I can get hold off. In the morning I am going to phone Renault UK (who i mostly hold repsonsible since its there repsonsibilty). Now studying the Fair Trading Website. I work in local government but dont have Fair Trading at our place.

Thanks for all your replys and I let you know what happens.

I had a similar problem with paint bubbles on my bonnet. It was the undercoat coming through!!! They resprayed it perfect job exactly the same colour looks better than it did b4, a good job anyway as a stone flicked up and chipped it so that was all fixed!! (I found this after having the car 2 weeks). Its a load of rubbish about the paint warranty being reduced as its repaired under the Renault warranty so it makes no difference the warranty stays exactly the same, 3 yrs paint etc. I think you have a week to reject it so I would if I was you get a brand new perfect car out of them!!!

I have to say ive had a list of problems as long as my arm with my car. I asked about them replacing the car but Renault UK said they would give me a car the same age and mileage!!! Its only 2mths old! How do I go about rejecting it for a brand new car as im not happy with mine either

Billabong it is your statutory right to reject goods...but you have to do it legallly...i.e write renault a letter stating you intend to reject your car to a nearest dealer and then actually carry it out.

once you hand back keys, stuff and logbook the car then becomes the property of the dealer and not you.

give your local trading standards in the council a ring they will put you right on the act etc

Phoned up Reanult UK today and made a complaint they were sorry to hear I was having trouble. Told them I was going to go down at lunch time, they said I should tell the dealer to phone Reanult UK up while I was there. Of course i mentioned this but it feel on deaf ears.

Went down "Eerr sorry no managers around can you come back" So I waited and waited (nealry an hour) and then someone came. Should have phoned ahead they said. Whoops sorry next time I come down to buy a car I will give you two weeks advanced notice!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway gave her the list and off she went, came back and guess what sorry you will still have to wait until the 19th May before car can come in for repairs. They will order the a new alloy, check the temp senor and do the tracking. The Cup badges are on order the bubbled paint was over spray which was helpfully removed by a gentleman in a suit using his fingernail.

Got the name and address of the following people who im now going to write to and let them know whar service or lack of service their company provides.

Chairman of Ilkeston Co-op Motor group

Chairman and CEO of Reanut UK (E-mailed Renault this moring and they got staight back to me with the info)

Chairman and CEO of Renualt in France

Also going to phone Renault UK and let them know what happened today but that I never got a Actual sorry or and compensation for wasting my time.

Funny enough when I was in there a pretty young lady came in, got first class service, sales staff round her like flies round sh*t

Well done on finding the names at the top, I hope you do write to them its only way to get things sorted IMHO

Keep us posted ;)
