rev counters

  Cupra K1 & Clio 200

jus bought a rev counter and i was wondering if anyone has installed one of these themselves?? i have the clio mk2 2000, so yeah if anyone has any tips or instructions i would most grateful. Cheers

Hon

I take the car did not have a rev counter in the first place. If it did, then wire it up to that. If not, ull have to wire it to the ignition module i think.

Mine doesnt have one as standard, so when i get one i actualy have to have a sender unit fitted to the engine (Expensive :( ), if u already have one fitted all you have to do is connect the new one up to the two wired behind the existign rev counter.

should just take a feed off the coil pack... it wotn be hard, and should tell you in the insstructions, think they may of scammed you with the sender?!? it litterally takes a signal each time the coil fires.

probably has a switch for cylinders aswell, ie 4,6,8, if it has then obviously set it to 4.

other than that its a case of +ve feed for the light(if it has one) that can be tapped in somewhere handy on the dash,+ve feed when the ignition is on, and earth it.

yeah mate thats exactly it. Its got 4 wires, one hard wired, one when engine is on, a ground and another one which is a bit vague. Im not too sure about this sender unit :-s

Paul, when you say take a feed off the coil pack..where about is this?! Im a bit dense when it comes to things behind the dash...thanks

You might not have a coil pack, I dont.. Mine has a eDIS module.. and I had to wire my rev counter into that.

Yeah not quite sure how much truth is in what i was told, i was told that by a halford machanic (at the Startford-upon-Avon store), either way it soulds like im gonna have to get it done by a pro, i can do most things, but i know f**k all about engines and related bits.

without looking at it i couldnt guess... but it will just be a case of finding the right connection, in a coil its the one that comes from the distributor... but it will only be a more advanced version of that.

Edis just sounds like a posh word for Electronic Distribution...

I will have a look at the valver coil tomorrow if nobodys sussed it by then. Whatever you do dont think its the king lead connection - the HT one

saying that were talking new clio here...
