Reverse gear clunk

This started a while ago clunking when going into reverse intermittently.

However, this now happens all the time. Got back from Cornwall last night, selected reverse (at complete standstill) and I could hear the clunk just before it fully engages gear.

So tested this morning when cold. Seemed fine going into reverse, but when i got to work around 30 mins later. Selected reverse, the clunk noise is back. So it only seems to do it once the engine is warm.

Does it every time selecting reverse.

Any ideas? OR is this normal?

Thanks Rockers.

Should of said. It makes the knock / clunk when selecting reverse. When moving backwards it doesn't seem to knock.

I think I get the same problem mate, so when you dip the clutch and select reverse is makes like a little clunk noise, before u even bring the clutch back up to move?? and also free bump, hopefully someone will know!!

Yup that's the one mate :) Does it all the time once the engine is hot. Strange that it does not do it from cold?

Genuine suggestion

Try putting the car into 2nd before selecting reverse. It wont clunk if its what I think it is. try it later

I selected 1st / 2nd gear and then into reverse and it seemed fine... What do you think it is? Due to the type of gearbox it is or?

I cant remember exactly what it is about the gearboxes, but even my gearbox which is about 1200 miles old crunches into reverse if I dont give it enough time

Just keep popping it in first before reverse. I do it in our brand new scania lorries too. they will also clunk

See even if I go from first or second it still gives a little clunk :/ lol anymore suggestions? Is it just as simple as the gear linkage, because their in a ball and socket type ain't they??
